Best Summer Camp

I have been skiing my whole life, but have not really done any park. I was wondering which camp is good for beginners. I also want a camp with a good atmosphere, like not all stuck up cocky assholes. and of course good coaches that can bring my park skiing up a couple noches.

Me. 18
Can straight air like 40 footers and stuff, but I got no tricks.

I am not really looking for rails, more for tricks that I can maybe take into the backcountry.


also wondering if people would recommend going skiing in Argentina or something instead? If anyone has done something like this I would love to hear about it.



I searched, but was hoping people could help me out with my situation, being my age and skill level.

i did and am doing windells which is great. before i could only 1 and sketch 3 now i can 3 with grabs, 5, backflip, rodeo, misty, etc. And i go better at rails. The coaches are great and you would be able to go during the summer(18 is not a problem)

everyone there is very helpful and its a great atmosphere

sick. Sounds like I am in the same boat as you were when you went there, maybe a little farther at the end of the season.

Hey dude, we'd be stoked to have you come ski with us here at the Camp of Champions in Whistler. We've got a variety of jump lines for all abilities. So you can learn tricks by sessioning our smaller jump lines and working with your coach to step it up to bigger jumps using our progressively large jumps lines. Our jump lines consist of 3 - 4 jumps, back to back that range in size from smaller, novice, jumps up to large, pro size jumps.

There are a few other posts on the forum about the different camps, so check them out as there are a lot of past campers providing some good feedback.

Also don't worry about any attitude. Our staff will cut down anyone throwing around any negative vibes or attitudes to other campers. It's honestly super rare, everyone is just stoked to ski. Our new site is dropping in a few weeks or jump on our site now and request a copy of our new brochure for more info. Also just give me a shout if you have any questions!

its worth the money. During the summer you get to meet a bunch of new people and ski with the best. It is a whole experience. The campus is cool. ive also heard that COC is good to but the public park at timberline is amazing during the summer

The coaches help you no matter what skill level you are

Whoops, just realized I should clarify, by progressive jump lines, I meant three novice jumps back to back, beside 3 intermediate jumps, beside 3 advanced jumps and then 3 pro jumps. I think that makes more sense. it's a little late, so my mind is not working too well!

the park sounds good, but I need good coaching. I dont really care who they are, as long as they are good coaches. A good skier doesnt necessarily mean he is a good coach, and I am at a low level, where I woudnt just be practicing by myself.

Our head coach is Matt Sterbenz and he runs a really tight coaching crew. They'll work with you to achieve whatever goals you want to set for yourself while at camp. Ultimately the people that get the most are the ones who come to camp with a trick list in mind and let the coaches know what those tricks are. The coaches are really stoked to hear what you want to learn, it makes their job a lot easier!

Our focus with camp is to build the best possible park to learn in, get coaches with as much of a passion for caching as they do skiing, and then making camp the most fun week of your life! All three aspects are key to helping you take your skiing to the next level.

Windells! I've been 3 times now and it kicks ass!
but if you're 18 you might as well just go bum at hood. 100x cheaper and you'll probably still learn a ton from all the other people there

Go to Momentum. They have the Best coaches, best atmosphere, and you can do really quick laps on the T-Bar and progress a lot!

Hey Sunsteez, we have an adult camp during Camp A (June 20 - 27). If you can't make it that week, we have adult campers at all of our sessions as well. Info on the adult week will be on our new site when it drops at te end of the month.

Also it is true that you can do quicker laps on the showcase t-bar at Momentum or PSI and hit one or two jumps per lap. Our t-bar, Horstman t-bar, is busier so laps are slower, but you can hit three or 4 jumps per lap. So you don't really ski more at Momentum. You will get more laps, but not neccesarily be able to session more jumps in a day. Just some food for thought on that point, as a few people have brought up before.

Windells is pretty sweet . used to not be able to 3 now i can 3, switch 1, and sketchy 5 but only after 2 days (almost got the misty) the coaches (Rory Sllva) is tight and they have a sweet tramp with a foam pit next to it to practice.

havent been to COC but it sounds pretty sweet also. I live near hood so its easy for me and a lot cheaper ($500) for weekend warriors

definetly look into Camp Of Champions. no doubt one of the best summer camps out there. there jumps are super legit so you can probably bring some of the stuff you learn there into the back country for sure. Like i ride at one of the top ranked parks in my province (quebec) but the park over at whistler still tops it without a doubt in the summertime and its just such a fun place to be aswell.

Do all these camps have like water ramps or foam pits or something to learn tricks on. Do you think I would leave the camp being able to backflips, frontflips, maybe 5's and 3's with grabs or something?

We have water ramp training in the afternoons. The coaches will take you to the water ramps to learn how to backflip and/or frontflip, and then progress to a small, backflip specific jump and finally to a table top jump. Almost all campers that can jump will learn to backflip at camp. You would be surprised how easy they are once you get shown how.

Also it is not official yet, but we're working with a trampoline coach to bring a tramp to camp. Yeah, "tramp to camp"!

so I emailed the mt hood ski camp with some questions, and I got this in the reply



"In terms of learning tricks there is not a camp on the mountain that will teach you a front or back flip"


Is this true that no camp will teach me how to do a back or front flip?

Hood doesn't know what they're talking about. We had a full day flip session at windells last year. Hood just doesn't include Windells as part of "their" camps.

It violates a camps insurance policy to teach inverts on snow. Hence the reason most camps, like ous teach campers backflips at the water ramps, so campers aren't taught backflips on snow. Backflips are learned in the water and then campers take their new backflip skills to the snow.

ive gone to windells and coc and if i would have to pick between them i would pick coc because they have a t bar lift and although windells is sick u have to hike and hikeing sucks

I am also interested in going to a camp. Several times over the past two years I have requested a brochure from COC but it never seems to come in the mail.

I too will would be 18 if/when I go to camp. I have about 20 days skiing experience my whole life (weekend warrior) over the past 3 years... and my park "experience" is starting to learn to ski switch, jumping small kickers (like not even kickers..), rollers and sliding straight over some boxes. Despite my lack of time on snow I am a pretty solid skier, but I definitely wonder if I would be a total failure at one of these camps... especially because I look at a box or a small jump with a crap load of fear, and I wonder if any coach could help me build up some confidence. Or maybe park skiing just isn't in me (I hope not!)

I would LOVE to learn like an invert... but again... the fear. I need to work on that, but maybe it's just lack of time on snow.

Ive been to COC twice, and Windells once, and liked COC more.  Nothing against Windells, its still a way sick camp I just liked having the village at Whistler with more stuff to do after skiing.  Both have great parks, coaches, everything.  If you live in the U.S., it'll probably make more sense to go to Windells given the shape the economy is in.

is the hiking the only reason you like windells better, because i have been to coc and im looking into going to windells because it looks alot more fun. i dont mind hiking or the accomodation so it would be nice to have an opnion from somone who has been to both

You should most definitely consider South America Snow Sessions in Argentina. Have a look at the podcasts and the 5th Hunting Yeti webisode to get an idea what skiing in Argentina is like.

If you want to ski park only in the summer, you should also consider camps in Europe or just going to New Zealand by yourself. North American summer camps cost a lot, and it's way more epic to use that money to go to New Zealand. For Europe have a look at Demonium Masta Camps in Les 2 Alpes and Saas Fee.... and Big A in Val Senales. In Europe you can go to camp for as cheap as $80 per day.
