p-tax

i just got some new skis and i did a little off trail skiing and hit a huge patch of rocks. now i need p-tax and my parents are being real bitchy about them because i dont keep them in as good of condition as my race skis. anyways, how much should this cost to fix? there are a lot of marks on the bottom of the ski that dig in about 1-2mm

most shops do it for you as part of a normal ski tune. you can do it yourself, buy i've never personally done it. it involves heating up the p-TEX (not tax) and then making it flat with the base when you fill the hole.

ya i found directions on the internet. sounds easy, you just light the p-tEx stick on fire and drip it in the hole, let it dry, then rub it with fiber-text or something like that, then wax. too bad my parents wont let me do it by myself :( what bastards sometimes.

I always P-Tex my own ski's it is real easy. Just make sure you let it set. Its not worth having a shop do what you can do in 15 mins in your garage.

ptex is cheap but its kinda hard to use, i mean its harder than wax. when it hardens it hardens. its alot harder to scrape the shit off than wax. with my experience i would drip it in and it would dry in round circles. so i just filed the wholes with alot of wax every time i would wax my skis

that's why i let shops do ptex work for me. they ptex, then plane the ski (so it's a flat base)

Just have the shop do it, since (as has already been said), they'll include it with a normal tune. Odds are, after fixing a base gouge, you would need a stonegrind and wax anyway.
