youd be seriously stupid however to spend 6k on a set of wheels whose only benefit over a set of vmrs youll never see. The reason they are soo damn expensive is the forging process, and a proven race design, unless you plan on turning your a5 into a track monster youll never see the differene

Check out my impreza on the page before. Maybe you would like something like that? IMO they look great on our gen subies. They're Enkei NT03+M's I payed about 1400 for the set on tire rack and they are damn light for the money. Those are 18's as well.

Just thought I'd throw the idea out there

20s look great on a5/s5's. It's a long process but I will be slowly adding performance mods. Right now however, I want some bigger/nicer wheels to make it even cooler visually. Thanks for the concern though guys lol. I am not going to buy some shitty wheels that serve no function other than making the car look cooler

those HRES serve no function espescially in 20 inches, why do no race cars run over 18s? unsrpung weight and the fact that your choices for rubber are gonna be junk with that little sidewall

I get buying the name brand, I really do, but you'll never be able to tell the difference between the two and for the price of one set of p40s or any hres for that matter you can buy 4 sets of VMRs, which arent some cheap knock-offs, and they have a fanastic record over the last 8 years of production

even an expensive set of 3pc "race" rotiforms will run you under 6, some upconverted bbs rs's will run you no more than 4.


nobigdeal, firstly, lower it, add some spacers, and do some basic bolt on/ecu mods before you drop money for a 6k set of wheels

idc its a 420 bhp supercharged car and it looks so sexy, it also goes fast so I dont really care if it stands for MARKETING, do you see any other 3 series stock with 420 horse? id say its still bmw's tuned division.

First off, HREs serve the function of allowing my car to drive... Sure there are cheaper wheels on the market, but i'm not doing mods to save money lol.

i'm doing exterior mods first because thats just the way I want to do it, plain and simple. If i wanted a performance car then i would go in my garage. this is an everyday car. Honestly, The price of the wheels does not bother me. I just think it would be lame to put some average wheels on the car. Paying for the brand name is part of it.

And to everyone else that offered suggestions, thanks. I'm not sure about spacers. I plan on swapping out the coils for some H&R OE's once i get the wheels on there.

I also just bought black window trim and I am considering smoking the fog lights. thoughts?

Why?
Wanting your car to look nice and wanting your car to be 300+ hp are two different things. Once you start modifying above the intake/TBE/tune level, shit gets really expensive. A lot of times (depending on the car) you'll spend a lot of money and get a small HP increase.

Now obviously I'm not siding with him at all. Buying those wheels would be absolutely ridiculous. I just think it's a little ignorant to say that if your car looks clean/nice it should have power to back it up.

agreed, theres a difference between tastefully modding and making your car look like the car you want rather than the car you have.

spending over 6500 on wheels (upwards of 13% of the value of the vehicle brand new, assuming its fully loaded already) is the latter

love your car, nice new grille and window trim. 6500 on wheels, fucking stupid

not a fool... someone who wants nice/expensive/desirable wheels, not some junky wheels that no one cares about. Maybe i will re consider price for more around 4-5k. I still have not received a quote from HRE, we will see. I'm pretty sure ill go with those though. and maybe some spacers after i see what the new coils look like on the car.

I back you up 100 percent. If you have the money, and spending that much is not a problem for you than go for it. I like the direction your going with this with the hre's and the h&r's. Do your thing it's your car and it's going to look sick with those wheels.

The whole point is looks, I'm not doing it for performance. I have other cars to drive for that. For a everyday car the stock engine does just fine.

ok, so, youre established that youre just going for looks, youre buying HRE's for the name, looks and the prestige associated with them.... ill give, HRE makes some nice wheels, but seriously, for 6500, youre buying THOSE? really?

if youre going for the name and quality associated with HRE and not some junky wheels that nobody cares about, why are you choosing a wheel style that almost every company makes? the only thing that distinguishes them from eneki, bbs, the stock bmw wheels, vmr, etc is that cap in the center....

...and the point is you can get that same style for less than half the price, since you DON'T need the performance/strength provided by HRE, as you drive a fucking bone stock A5 - not exactly a performance vehicle by any means. Also, how are other wheels "knockoffs" just because they have the same style? You are an idiot.

Ok, not "knockoffs" but cheap wheels that anyone can go and buy when they feel like getting new wheels. like i stated before, its the style along with the "prestige" That comes along with the name. i don't want to see other cars with the same wheels.

Yes sir :) may need to keep the stock tires on until I ship the car back home. But the wheels will atleast require a dry fit to see if I need some spacers.

Whatever you guys think. It's stock right now, but will not be in the years to come. Me knowing that I spent money on a pair of sub-par wheels would make me unhappy. Relate it to wearing a fake watch. it looks like a real one, but it's not and your the only one who knows its a knock off. Is a 50K watch worth it when you can get a knock off for a few hundred bucks? You guys just don't understand where I am coming from and I understand that, but please stop trying to prove something.

The DSG is more fun than I thought it would be, and having instant power on tap without having to build boost is something I don't think will get old for a while haha. Unfortunately, it'll be harder to make easy power with no forced induction, but that's what I have the STI for I suppose. It's actually sitting at the dealership right now getting an oil change, tires rotated, and a "72 point inspection" or whatever bullshit they do so that I can extend the factory warranty for a few years, so I've been driving the STI since yesterday anyway.

How are BBS or VMR wheels sub-par? They are not fake or knockoff wheels, so your comparison to a fake watch is completely asinine. Your argument is more along the lines of, "why buy a Lear jet when I could just buy a double-decker 747? I mean, I definitely need that extra room for my 45 minute flight from Detroit to Chicago!"

Didn't say bbs were knock offs. I said I was also considering bbs. I am talking about all the wheels that look similar to the HRE's that are like $100-$200 a piece. But a pair of ch-rs would not exactly be cheap either. They would run between 3k and 4k for 20s. From what I've gathered the HREs run from 1700-2000 a piece. Des that sound right? So I mean really, after spending 55k on a car, what is another couple thousand dollars for the wheels I want?

The bbs ch-rs I'm looking at do include tires for about 5k. The HRE p40sc's are 1600 a piece without tires. Pretty big price difference. I do like the BBS ch-rs a lot too. I don't like the brushed lip very much.

you compared them to wearing a fake watch....

and yes, all said and done those wheels will be costing you 8-10k with tires and install. on a 55k car, spending close to 1/5th its value on wheels and tires is excessive, and stupid.

your comparison to a watch would be more suitable like this:

you want to spend 50k on a watch to be unique and to be viewed as someone who spends 50k on a watch, yet youre choosing a watch that looks EXACTLY like the watches every other company makes. the only thing different from your watch and everyone elses, is that TINY emblem on the face that will only be noticeable when youre within a few feet of it. oh and the kicker? youre planning on wearing it with your base level (insert expensive suit company name here) suit
