PLEASE help me and I'll give you +Karma, I know this is really long too.

I'm 17 years of age. I go to high school. I'm a junior.

So for some kids it's World of Warcraft that takes over their life and they never do shit except play that game, but for me it's a mix of things and an everyday struggle... So about 3 or more weeks ago my parents found out that I smoke and drink occasionally.

My parents made a new rule since then, that I have to have an overall grade in each 6 classes of nothing lower than a B-. I know some of you are thinking "Why is this kid worrying? Its so easy to get at least a B!", well for me its harder because I have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). I do take 30 mg of Adderall twice a day, once in the morning and again at lunch. Currently I'm having a lot of trouble with high school in general but mainly Chemisty and Spanish, they're so hard!

In Chemistry we work in groups of 5, two laptops per group and everybody in my group is dec. smart and knows what their doing while I'm confused and draging behind. My teacher thinks he's being all revolutionary by having us turn everything in electronically, which would make sense if the use of laptops was implemented in every class which they aren't! That just adds the complexity. Everybody's grade in that class ranges from an F to C, I have a fat 'F'. The highest grade is a B and only two girls have one. Our teacher is SUPER ANAL and really brainy. If you turn in something not up to par he just won't grade it, which isn't fair. Last week we turned in our essays about something not even related to Chemistry. The next day he assigned us another fucking essay! My parents have sent him emails and basically what he replys with is saying that he can't do anything to help me and that i have to help myself...

Then in Spanish, its my 2nd year of Spanish. I just can't conjugate worth shit because I can never remember the endings. I basically can't remember the most important parts of Spanish. I'm standing at a 'D' in that class at the moment. It's difficult for me to pay attention in that class because everybody in that class is yelling stuff out and talking. So then I basically over power my medicine (adderall) and get really hyped up! And just start getting distracted easily, messing around, and making the class laugh.

But what all this basically boils down to a couple thing, I don't study, I get distracted, and I have BIG PROBLEM with procrastinating. I don't study because I can never focus when I'm at home and I don't even know how to study! Also because I get distracted while doing my homework by things such as NS.com. So my main problem that I've realized is that I procrastinate basically on EVERYTHING. Its truly a terrible habit that I've developed. I always wait for the night before something is due to write an essay, powerpoint, project, ect. I usually tell myself I'll do it tomorrow but then I just keep procrastinating until its the night before.

So PLEASE HELP ME! I need to STOP procrastinating with everything I do. Give me some tips, hints(jk), or cheat codes(jk!). I want to be able to ski and I want to go to College. So anything will help. I need to break this shitty rut and create a different routine.

Have your parents help you with stuff.  Sit down with them and have them work through study routines with you.  If they want you to bring your grades up then they should be willing to help.

i know what youre going through.  i have really bad ADHD too.  i was on concerta, adderol, ritalin, you name it, and honestly this is the best advice i can give you:  focus.  the medicine never helped me, so one day i told myself, if i dont get my grades done, ill never get to do any of the things i love, and ill probably end up a failure at life.  just buckle down and dont let yourself blame your ADHD for everything, i know how easy that is.  good luck to you, i know that basic school can be one of the hardest things for people like us, and i hope you get to ski this year.

well NS is the leading cause of incomplete homework, so you're definately gonna wanna limit your time spent on here. you should suck up to your teachers and try as hard as you can, that way if you get slightly below a 'B" but your teacher gives you really good comments about your work habit, your parents might be happier with you. also just develop good habits of setting aside a certain amount of time everyday to do your homework, that way it just becomes a routine, like everyday an hour before i wanna go to bed i just say to myself 'do i have any homework from today' and if i do then i just get it done and it really doesnt take any spare time out of my day. it just comes down to self discipline really, but i do understand that you are on medication which probably makes it pretty hard and your parents should understand that.

yeah dude i know what its like.
wen u need to work, go somwhere where nothing can distract u.
to start of with, set urself easy study goals. make it short and sweet so you know you can do it within your attention span, mine can be like 15mins sometime, or not even time period, like try do a page of notes etc. then if you can progress it into longer periods thats good. but small periods of decent study is beter than long periods of shit study. if you can do that you should get ur grades and be able to skiiiii!!!

Sounds like me in highschool only I was addicted to live music, and friendster.

So if you are anything like me, you lay in bed for like an hour or two every night hating that you are still awake or wake up in the middle of the night and stare at your alarm clock.

I started taking advantage of this time. And would get out of bed and read books for class or do assignments till I was tired enough to fall asleep. I developed the most bizarre sleep schedule in highschool cause of this, but I got way more done than I would have otherwise.

As far as study habits go, you will find yours.

For when I am reading, I take all my bedding off my bed and squish it into the corner and sit in it, make some hot chocolate, light some candles, and have at it. Totally gets me in the mood, I know its girly, but I'm a girl. I'm sure everyone has their own way.

For writing papers and such, I close every application on my computer except for office, and safari and and post a message on facebook that if anyone sees me on aim or on there to tell me to get off. Then I plug in the headphones and usually listen to electronic or house music cause I find it to be the perfect amount of indestraction.

Doing normal homework.... well I never did and it seriously hurt my GPA. I still haven't figured out a method for that one. Good luck there.

Patrick. If you need help I'll give you some, but I did tell you that you need to talk to the teachers. Even if they are dicks. It'll make them like you more, and they'll see that you actually care. Don't overpower the adderall you're already crazy enough haha
Maybe take a little focus off NS and skiing for a bit and work on school. You can't even ski yet, you won't be able to unless you get those D's up to C's or B's. Keep the A's you have too. Basically devote the time you need to school and fuck everything else for now...you're already in enough trouble with the parents and if you can get the grades they should lighten up and you will have a dope season, brothaaaaa!

I have a problem with procrastination too, but i set goals for myself while i work.  if i finish an essay i'll spend 15 minutes on facebook or something then go back to my other homework.  i've found that structuring my routine helps a lot in that sense.  i have spanish II also and if i were you, i'd just write down conjugation for the 3 types of verbs and a few irregulars in all three tenses in some systematic way.  then just spend like half an hour a night on studying it.  then you can go on ns for a bit.  pm me if you have any spanish problems and i can help you out.
for chemistry, just talk to your group, get their phone numbers and call them if you have trouble or something.  good luck.

First of all, you should really have a heart to heart with your parents. Tell them what you told us. They should be more than willing to help. And as long as you show them you're serious, it'll open up a new way of communication with them, and you'll benefit.

Studying is a hard task, but if you can find your flow, what works for you, you can easily learn how to. Maybe play some music in the background, have a snack, ya know. Ask some friends to help you as well. Teaching you is a form of studying for them, too. As long as you're serious about it.

Like someone else said, skiing isn't even here yet. Use school to take your mind off of it. You got time, you can do it. Luck to you homie.

My teacher started using laptops to turn in lab reports and he spent 3 class periods explaining basics on excel. I already knew all of the stuff so I just got on NS, but in your case dont get on NS until all your homework is done.

First tip to stay focused on studying: DONT CRAM.
Study 15 minutes a night and you'll get more productivity out of that than any other method.

Second, workout first. It helps me focus at least, kills some of your energy. I don't know if it helps you but it does alot for me.

Third, just think about the consequences of not getting stuff done, and how shitty they will be. Its the best way to stay on task and get through something.

Lastly, do your homework and do it well. It practically does studying for you. I studied for 30 minutes total for 3 exams, and I wound up with a 90, 95 and 97. Why? because I already knew my stuff beforehand.

Besides the obvious of studying more, meeting with teachers, etc. You just gotta want to do well in school. I used to be in the exact same situation as you (well almost) I had ADHD and I just didn't really care about school. Pretty much i realized at the end of my sophomore year that my grades suck and i need to get them up. I just tried really hard and actually legitimately cared about my grades and I performed very well in school. I did all this w/o medication btw. At first i didnt think i was smart enough but once I did well one quarter, I had a huge confidence boost, and now i barley try and get by easyily. Its all in your head.

not even kidding im struggiling in spanish and chem im 16 and i have add and im a junior and my problem is hwk like i find it pointless but i get dissapointed when i do it which is never so it sucks and i always say im gunna change and do it but i never do its kinda rediculous

...surprisingly enough structured planning works the best for me. Now that i am in big leagues and what i do know will effect if i get a job or not i have found that by making lists of what has to be done, pretty much every day is the best way to work around things. What i usuually do i write like a schedule of when i should start and finish thing and give breaks inbetween for casual things like NS...but focusing on school...so stay structured it help a lot and make lots of lists and schedules for yourself customizing each one for each day

but actually, i would just make sure you do your homework if you need to and go in for extra help when you arent doing well or not understanding something. just make the effort and your grades will get better

yo i was literally in the exact same situation as you last year iw as on some aderol but not that much so it didnt help that much and school is extremely difciult for me. chem and spanish were the two hardest shit i have ever done. i failed spanish and almost failed chem. my advice if u want to pass is go to extra help myabe u can get ur teacher to throw  a few points in tell her ur situation idk man good luck

it's all a mind game with yourself, you just have to buckle down and do your homework and studying
don't let yourself take any excuses because your parents, your teachers, and ultimately your colleges won't care if you got a bad grade because your teacher was a dick or you have ADHD, so its up you to decide you want to do well

as for actual tips, i always do all of my non-comp hw (reading, math, wkshts, most stuff) in a really comfy recliner far away from my computer and i just bust through it really fast with some chill music in the background (try the idea soundtrack, bomb to study to) and i can get my stuff done really fast, notecards were god's gift to spanish students and as for chem, teachers are easier on you if you go in for help because then they see you are struggling but want to put forth the effort to do better

otherwise just do it.  it doesn't have to be all at once either. do it in sections or something: study for thirty minutes then go on ns for five?
*if it makes you feel any better i'm in college and my parents have given me the ultimate ultimatum: get my grades up or no skiing.

ok dude, i had the same exact problems last year... this is what i did...

For chemistry, just get those super smart kids to help you

hang with em, talk to em, make jokes, do whatever it takes for them to help you...if you gett 100s on all your HW then you can fail a test or two
also do as much Extra Credit as possible...ive even made cookies for my teacher before...you just gotta beg...


For Spanish, do all the HW, and good grades on quizzes....i failed 28 quizzes in that class, you just gotta do ok on test, and great on HW

oh and in Spanish...ya just needa cheat...

take easier classes, im a junior and have almost no hw ever and have straight a's , and dont say that u have adhd cuz i have bad add and dont take anything for it, you just gotta set yourself up for success

Dude, make yourself do the homework. Make yourself focus. I have a really hard time focusing and shit, but I have to make myself do it. You really need to set ground rules for yourself. Like..."I need to get this done by 6pm tonight or else I can't go out tomorrow." Punish yourself. I know it sounds weird, but it works. I have a few friends that had ADD, and it worked for them. I know you have ADHD, but you need to do the same thing. I have to do it for myself.

As for that teacher that never gives an A. I would talk to administration about that. Something isn't right there if no one has an A and they do all the work and they all have good grades in all their other classes.

my freshman year i got a 2.0 gpa then softmore year i droped a class i didnt need and got a study hall, it gives me 1 hour every day in scool that i can do my home work in. so durring sofmore year i missed 23full days of school and got a 3.0 for both semesters. and i still have no idea how to spell anything
GET A STUDY HALL SO YOU CANT PROCRASTINATE!!!

All this great advice, and now you want someone to hack into your teachers site? Own up to your own mistakes dude. Take the advice that was given to you in here, and get crackin'. Shit doesn't come easy - and hacking will solve nothing. You'll still be a lazy procrastinating kid in the end. Change yourself for the better - don't try and find the easy route.

have you talked to you spanish teacher that you need help? most language teachers are more than willing to stay after and help if you show you're making the effort to do better and learn their language, or in some cases schools have spanish clubs where seniors along with a teacher or two will help. talk to your maestro(a? dont know if its a man or woman, haha) about it.

Thank you. I've been telling him this for a while now.

Pat. The teacher will find out anyways and you'll get fucked. Your grade will be the only different one, and it's easy to change back. Just work hard, try to do something 100% yourself and you'll be set.
