Bacons vs. Hellbents

before you hate on me too much for making just ANOTHER  thread concerning hellbents, i would like to let you know that i picked through the hundreds of hellbent threads and found a  sfb vs bent thread but it didnt relate to me and i didnt want to bump an old thread so i made my own.

specs:
height- 5'10"

weight- 150lbs

skill level- powder: i am confident in my abilities in all the inbounds terrain at the three moutains i ski at. droped 20' cliffs last seson and looking to progress. hit 15-30 pow booters. not really any experience in switch pow skiing since my foils were not exactly perfect for it. all mtn-I wouuld like to ski these on some days that wernt strictly pow days. maybe some crud and choppy pow. I would also like to be able to ski groomers well . i also want to be able to take this ski into the park and play around with it on jumps, stalls, taps, barrels, etc. i want a ski that is really soft  and butterable. i like the idea of the hellbents rocker but have never ridden a rockered ski.

location- i ski in the north west, in southern idaho. my home mountain averages 300in a year and last year got like 450 or something, o there's no lack of fresh.

Price- I would be getting 09 line sir francis bacons and 08 K2 Hellbents.
there is a 200 dollar price differance and i was planning on getting the 179 bents if i chose those

i want a soft ski that floats amazing, that skis switch pow well and also rips on groomers.

please dont suggest other skis because i have narrowed it down to these two.
also i dont care how overplayed hellbents are or how many kids have them. i was also thinking of putting griffpons on these.
 
these will be part of a quiver of two skis 175 atomic urban punx and either of these.

i cant speak for bacons since ive never skied them, but hellbents are an amazing ski. i demoed them on a snowy day in mammoth last year. wasnt too deep of pow just like 1-2 feet but it skied amazingly on it. during that day i skied groomers but there was no ice and i did park too. i rode main and was able to do the biggest jumps while it was snowing and they didnt spin all that bad. its really stiff under foot and wide so you feel really stable straitlining into big jumps even though your tips and tails are bouncing all over. they were really sick doing presses on down rails too

I heard the hellbents are massive fun, even on groomers...
But have you ever considered the Scott p4 ?

i just talked to a dude the otherday at breck and he was talkin about the bacons being the best for pow around here. but im not sure how your snow compairs, but i have no personal experience with either, but the bacons sounded solid. this dude was no chump.

personally id go with the hellbents, I haven't ridden either but I've got some buddies that rave about those. Keep in mind the 179 is actually a 184 but skis and feels like a 179 because of the rocker. K2 put a lot of time and testing into this ski and I've heard nothing but great things about it. I've skied both skis ...well I skied the 08 Bacons and if they are still the same...you will LOVE either pair and either will probably suit your needs and more. I'm saying this by the fact that you have never ridden a rockered ski before...so the Bacons are just such an ALL round ski and probably rank in the top 3 ONE quiver ski of 08 and possibly 09

 I went with the Hellbents though because of the 'rocker' idea...not because it was going to be better than the Bacons but because I had already skied skis like the Bacon before. If you haven't skied a rocker.....TRY TRY TRY TRY DEMO THEM and then make your judgements.

I skied all last season on mine...in the pow, in the slush, in the park, off cliffs, off booters, off tables...on the groomers...the only surface they don't do well in was ice...like -30 weather.

OF course they excel in the pow and then like a sliding scale their effectiveness diminishes as there's less snow on the ground but for overall FUN...it was a blast. You'll just laugh when there's some fresh on the ground...and you'll also have a killer ski that everyone else will want to try out! Rock away man...you won't regret it.

I'm gonna bump this because I have now found myself in this position.

I'm pretty much the same height and weight as the creator too.

So the 07/08 Bacon or 08/09 Hellbent.

JJs are mostly sold out... especially in a 185. Armada is backed up beyond belief in the JJ department with more than 100 pairs of them bought that aren't even made yet. There have been a lot less threads on them lately, which is nice, but the "fad" is far from over.

Now to the thread creator, it appears that you have already made your decision, which is great. I had the bacons last year (same ski as this year), and they were a good ski. They were fun pretty much everywhere, but to be honest I always had a bit of rocker envy. Whether you go Bents, EP Pro, JJ, ARG, Bibby, what have you, you will be happier in the long run than you would have been going with the SFB.

Pollard doesn't even ride the SFB, which is sort of sad. Check out lineskis.com and look at the bacon video... they are all EPs, or other rockered prototypes. Not riding your pro-model ski is so hot right now (Pep, EP, Tanner, etc.). So if you are set on the bents, go with them. They are not my favorite ski, but you will be stoked on them.

Wouldn't say it is my favorite ski necessarily simply because I haven't skied on it enough. But it is by far the ski that I am excited about the most. I think it is the most versatile rockered skis out there, which feels amazing on groomed runs and obviously kills it in the pow.

The way I see it, the Hellbent is a great ski, I just think there are far better choices depending on what you are going to do and how you want the ski to feel.

i ordered some bents on september 1............ they still havent shipped!!!!
but i am so stoked to ski them in pow, i have only skied them on  summer snow

Ok, so as this would be my first big fat pow ski, I wanted to get it right.

I've done endless researching, which has been fun, I've learnt a hell of a lot, and I think I have now come to a conclusion.

I want a fat ski, which rides amazing in powder, and also works all over the mountain (groomers/crud/park) when I want it to.. and also looks good.. and I think this points straight to the SFB.

I think if I wanted a pow ski.. which would ONLY ski in the bc, then I'd go for the Hellbent, but from everything I have read, the SFB is a lot more versatile.

My other skis are 84 underfoot, and a lot of people have fatter skis which they use as their all mountain ski, so they then want to get a pow ski which they will use JUST for pow, because they have their other skis for all over the mountain. I don't have the cash right now to get 2 more sets of skis, so the 07/08 SFB it is (just because it looks SO much sicker than the 08/09)

i got bacons for the versatility. also the hellbents sold out but i didnt want them anyway because of an unknown snow fall.
