New Camcorder for my Ski Vids

I'm looking for a camcorder that kinda on the verge of a professional camera and a consumer camera... not to pricy though, maybe around $1k...
i'm thinking about the Canon Vixia HF11, or the JVC GZ-HD7
the jvc looks pretty sick but some ppl have said the image stabilizer has probs.
the canon is also cool, more$$$ though but not as many problems
honestly i'm just really looking for good quality video
what do u guys think
u can also recommend other stuff as-well

HV20 or HV30 with a tripod/lens

GL2 maybe?  Probs not if you have these guys^

Really though, the HV series is the best cheap cam on the market right now.  Really, ask Alex Horner or anybody, and they'll say so.  Good quality, HDV, the works. 

No handle though...so I doubt you're one of those "need a handle!" kids, but hey, you never know.

well, the hv20/30 both sound pretyy nice but don't those ones have a hard drive built into the camera? is that an advantage over the sd which i believe the hf series has? what about the hg one?
has anyone tried the jvc?

i don't know a ton about video cameras tho, but i know that the hv30 is just about the best camera for you price that you can buy right now.

I think the first thing to do is list the camcorders that fit your budget and criteria. And then, you compare the camcorder ratings of these products in order to know which one will give the best value. If you want more information,  there are expert reviews that you can skimmed through to give you more knowledge about these items. Good luck.

I use an HG10, and its not bad.. it has a 40gb Harddrive in it, and has the same CMOS sensor as the HV's.

i forget exactly if it has 1080p like the HV20/30 though, I'd be hard pressed to think it doesn't at this point.

HV20/30 do NOT have 1080p. They don't even have 720p, just 1080i.


Either get a dvc30 for SD or hv20/30 for HDV.

#1 it is IMPOSSIBLE for HDV to have true progressive filming. It's just a fact.

#2 hvx's don't even shoot 1080p

Hmm. very well i'll take your word for it for sure.

I just for some reason thought that they somehow were able to when i was doing research on cameras a week or so ago.

I own the Canon HV20 and it a great camera, the best in that price range and last years camcorder of the year.

The HV20/30 mocels can, from what I have read, record 1080p, but not play it directly from the camcorder. You have to transfer the video from the camcorder to your computer to get the 1080p.
The camcorder records in 1440x1080, and then scales it to match the 1920x1080, that is why the camcorder can only playback 1080i. But on the computer you can remove the pulldown and you will be left with real 1080p.

So I would say, get the new HV30, well not that new anymore, buy a tripod, a spare battery and a wide angle lens (Canon WD-H43?). And if needed make your own handle, it is a nice thing to have. I have build both my own handle and a jib-crane. And i currently working on a glidecam and a helmet mount.

i think i'll be getting the hv30 with the wide angle lens and a monopod...

just one more question
what do u guys mean when u say make your own handle??? which part of the camera is the handle cuz the hv30 has a strap thing for your hand if thats what your talking about...

the handel is something that you grab on too that is over top of the camera, makes the footage less shaky especially when you do follow cams

When you "make your own handle" you make a handle that, usually, screws into the tripod base and arcs over the top of the camera so you can hold it low, like a camera with a built in handle.
