Replying to Cell Phone Insurance Questions

Alright so I have Verizon and my Chocolate just got stolen on the 4th. So I know my plan will cover theft but I was wondering if anyone knew if I could select a better phone and not get charged full price for it. My Choclate sucked and I don't really want another one. Is there any way that they would contact Verizon to see if I selected a different phone. The company is Asurion and I've done a few claims before but I've always had to send in the broken one so they would know if i selected a different phone. Has anyone has experience with this company and picking a different phone then they had before?
