Oakley lens quiz

So...
I have bunches of questions that I thought I might as well put in one thread:

1) Chrome lens
So is the most chrome looking lens by Oakley the black iridium, or is it something else? I've seen some black iridiums that are almost like a persimmon, but some lenses are extremely chrome mirrored, like you can't even see the eyes at all. Is that some weird other lens?

2) Vr28 Black Iridium

I searchbarred and all I found was stuff on the vr28 itself, not the vr28 black iridium. I Have no idea what it is like. It doesn't show up on the oakley site for their protection index chart thing, but in the custom section it's available for buying. Anyone know anything about this lens? Brighter than black iridium? darker?

3)What kind of bright condition lenses are good? 
 
I've heard the usuals: Black, Gold, Fire, kinda Blue, but which ones are good for most conditions, but aimed at sunny ones? (I have a Pink Iridium right now and that's good for all the not-so-good light conditions, so which lens would compliment that well?)
Are there any other lenses that are less talked about that I might not know about? Emerald iridium, for example. Anyone have any experience with those, or the previously mentioned vr28 Black's?

vr28 is a little darker than black iridium, i think about the same as fire, but it doesn't look as gay.

black, gold, fire, and vr28 black iridium would all be good for bright sunny days. (ive tried all but gold in sunny light)

i have emerald right now and they are sick as fuck. they look different than pics you can find on the internet. they kinda look like gold iridium with a bluish tint.  emerald and blue iridium both have a 30 rating on oakleys protection index, so would be a little better in more diverse light conditions vs. the others i mentioned.

The vr28 black iridium is a tad lighter than black iridium.  Black iridium, in the light is completely opaque, but in the same conditions with the vr28, you can see the outlines of the eyes and stuff.  It's basically a more versatile black iridium.  And if you want a great all condition lens, I would recommend the g30, along with the aforementioned lens.  You can see through it from the other side, so you might not look like the biggest balla if that matters to you, but there is just a super subtle iridium coating, but it works great.  But I think the pink iridium is the best all condition lens.  If you get a darker lens, especially the darker iridiums, those are best suited for bluebird.

black irid is the most chromey lens, in the right light it's a total mirror
i'd say the best all around in my mind is hi-persimmon, something about it it's just sick everywhere and the best sun lens is black irid and the best flat light is hi-yellow, but it depends on opinion
and vr28 black irid is a rosey black irid that's a little lighter

^^the vr28 black iridiums i had with my a frames were way more mirrored than normal black iridium. they are sort of a greyish mirrored coloer.  i think both of you are thinking about normal vr28, which is a rosey color.

You might have been looking at the lenses in different light, because the vr28 is lighter and less reflective, if lookied at side by side.  the vr28 is just a straight up dark lens with no iridium.

yeah, thats sorta what i said. but im talking about vr28 black iridium which is vr28 with an iridium coating.

to answer ur question black iridium is a lens that from slight angles of light can almost look like a perssimon or in bright light look completely chrome...its really weird but people notice it changes with brightness with my black iridiums

to answer ur last question all but Fire lens are desent in the none bright conditions, ive seen gold and black iridium side by side and the difference is so little (gold is a bit lighter in color)
the diff is black is like a dark orange like color and gold is like a dark pink

I use the Fire iridium in both my every day sunglasses and my brighter day goggles. I find them the best as far as range of usage and natural colour. use them all summer for biking and they work in both direct sun and under tree cover.

black iridium is the darkest on the oakley chart followed real close by vr28 polarized. the polarized is sooo sick when its really bright out. it turns completly black and mirrored looking. i just got one and love it. thats what i would recommend for any summer skiing or real bright condisions. or black iridium or fire. all 3 are real dark.

I know what you're talking about.  The vr28 is a normal lens, no mirror, just really dark.  The vr28 black iridium is basically just a less reflective black iridium lens.  Not much, but slightly less.  Like I said above, you can't see through the black iridium from the outside, but the vr28 black iridium, you can barely see the outlines of the eyes and stuff.

Cool. Thanks for the input. So the conditions that a lens are in really change its level of mirror?
And do lenses lose their mirror after a while?

the amount of light changes how visible the mirror is, it doesn't mean that the less light there is the less reflective the lens gets and the better the lens will work in low light conditions.  The lens lets in the same percentage of light no matter what.  And as far as I know, the iridium(mirror) is permanent.

Right. That's what I meant. The amount that the mirror is visible, not that the mirror lets in less light. And you don't think the iridium coating can come off?

Yeah I'm 99.99% sure the iridium coating doesn't come off.  I remember all my friends telling me crowbars are the most bomber goggle ever, so I did some research, watched some videos on the oakley site, and they bond the iridium at like a molecular level, so it's permanent.  I'm not 100% sure, they might have been talking about something else they do to the goggle, maybe take a look yourself.

^ in some cases i have seen a layer peel on the iridium lens so it may be a possibility

I agree. I have an emerald as well and I use it as my all around lens from sun up to sun down. It's supposedly darker than pink but I've had no trouble with it at night. The color definitly is much different than shown on the oakley site, it looks just like the emerald they have in sunglasses, greenish mirror with blue around the edges. I had black irid for specifically sunny days and hi yellow for flat days or night time but the emerald gets the job done at any time.

i have black iridiums with custom pink tint signiture to the old eastern boarder crowbars and i would have to say with some sunlight they are uber chrome but if theres not directly light on them they are just sort of  pink. its a tite lenz tho and works sick in all conditions.

well u basically just described my 2 black irid lenses in your opening post, one is almost persimmon cause its faded and the other is straight up full mirror (maybe u were talking about mine?)

Yours and another friend of mine's were definitely the inspiration for this thread.



And those emeralds are sick! Anyone know if any goggles will actually come with that lens next season instead of just as a replacement?
