This is a pretty bad deal for the USA.
The Senate just voted down the Dodd / Feingold amendment, which would have stripped telecom immunity from the FISA bill. The bill as it stands makes all telecom companies retroactively immune from legal action for their participation in illegal wiretapping and surveillance of American citizens.
