im just guessin but maybe it was two rails right next to each other and they wanted to do the top one, but the bottom one stuck out a little at the end so they had to saw it off so they wouldnt catch on it as they came off. not sure tho

mike douglas told me that they dressed up as city workmen to dig a kicker for the rail and do some work on it so it would be grindable.

a lot of rails have those six inch flat parts at the bottom, and they were cutting it off with a hack saw. I've done it before, it keeps you from dying at the end.
