FKS + Surface watch lifes = bad!!!!

So yeah just a little reminder to all those buying surface this year just be careful what bindings you mount on them because this can happen....

I broke the brakes on my fks today, starting to annoy me, obviously could happen with another binding but getting a pair of brakes for something else isn't near the difficulty as it is for fks

the core on the skis are softer than others. I don't know its not the ski but because of the softer core and the small foot print on the fks its not unreasonable to guess that the binding had something to do with it. I actually don't know when it happened I think it was last week sometime that was the last time I rode them I just noticed the damage tonight.

granted FKS' have tighter screw patterns, but that could be a defect with the ski, mounting issue etc...go for warranty

yeah I'm going to talk to Mike on Saturday see if I can warranty them if not hopefully I can get another pair for a good price.

thats kinda dumb to say its the binding, the whole topsheet is ripped off, and it looks like the core is cracked (or your just really flexing the ski in the pic).

yeah i ripped a heel piece of some fisher x17s out of my watch lifes. just the front two screws of the heel piece came out.  i was just doin groomys too.

I've had nothing but problems with my watch lifes with FKS bindings moutned on them. :(  two rip outs after 15 days.

sorry for bumping a semi-old thread but I just picked up some watch lifes, I had to it was a mad good price. I never saw this thread, is this something that I should be really concerned about or is it just an anomaly?

If it isn't an anomaly, will there be any trouble waranteeing it if it's beyond the warranty date?

Are you putting FKS on them because a lot of people have had problems with those bindings on the watch life's due to the tight screw pattern due to the core of the ski. The skis however are dope they are by far some of the best skis I have ever ridden. Surface is legit glad you coped a pair, just be a little careful about what bindings you put on them.

oh so it's only FKS bindings?

I thought they were a general problem. Glad to hear it's not, I'll be careful about not putting FKS on it.

well FKS have a tighter screw pattern than many other bindings, so (depending on the core and the ski) it makes sense for them to be more prone to ripout..It isn't like you would EXPECT a ripout though.

I wouldn't say there are problems with the ski and I wouldn't say there are problems with the binding, but in this case 2+2=5 and it seems there is a slight problem there..in any case surface are beyond legit with their customers and thats all you need to know.

how can you defend a company that's making inferior product? this is just beyond me, every other park ski on the market seems to do fine mountin FKS bindings (including invaders and urban punx, which are way softer), so why shouldn't surface be able to? that's bull, why would you spend money on something that you cant use the best park bindings on?

I ski the Watch Life with the FKS and have zero problems. You should send that in for Warranty for sure.

i would not install fks on any binding with out a sheet of metal in it. like its been said the hole pattern is too close together and termendus forces applied to a small area area are no good. salomon has a huge hole pattern so do the jesters i think.

Tons of people use FKS on skis without metal in them, believe it or not, the problem doesn't lie in the bindings.
