skiings a lifestyle for me, a sport is just something you do to kill time, skiing is something i build my life around, like i work in a ski shop to pay for lift tickets so i can go skiing, and i wouldnt want it any other way. i dunno thats just my own 2 cents.
and ive had people tell me that skiing is gay or whatever, they usually shut up after i show them some videos, its just because people assume that all skiiers are racing around in skin tight one piece suits looking quite gay

Skiing requires different skills than other sports. You have to have amazing balance, coordnation, and most important I think is you have to be insane. Thats how most extreme sports are, unlike school sports where you have to have some dedication and have to be a good athlete. I think golf deffintly qualifies as a sport, just because theres a few unathletic people in the game doesnt make it any less of a sport. Look at Shaq and David Ortiz, both fatasses but still considered athletes in most peoples eyes.

Someone once made the argument to me that in order for something to be a sport the competitors have to be trying to impede each other's scoring. Skiing is definitely an athletic endeavor, and you can ski competitively against another skier's time or style (like figure skaters competing against each other for who has the best jumps, spins, etc.), but to be a sport I think there needs to be head to head competition, not just side by side comparison. I was convinced this was a good definition. For what it's worth, whether skiing is a sport or not is irrelevant to how I feel when I do it and how I feel when I see someone else doing it well.
My 2 cents.

Ever since poker started on ESPN, there are no boundaries to what a sport is anymore. I play poker occasionally but lets be serious now, there is no athletic ability required, there is some luck involved, and you dont even have to think some of the times.
