I'm growing something in my locker

So as a little side project this year, I was going to bring in a rubbermade bin and put it in my locker. I will then fill it with soil and plant a partially grown tree in there. This way, it will be much harder for me to have a bad day at school, seeing how every time I open my locker, a beautiful tree will greet me.
My question is, what kind of tree is fast, and easy to grow in a confined space? Also, I heard that battery-powered grow lights exist, yet I can't find any. Anybody here with a greenthumb?

you should get a tall plant that is colorful.
idk about AK, but in WA all of our trees are dark green...and I dont find that very colorful and greeting
But i do like your idea i'd rather put in a colorful sweet smelling plant

you'll probably need a uv light and watering system set up or you beautiful tree might die :-( and then you'll look into your locker and feel sad. because you killed a tree.

The greatest idea i ever came up with in HS is to bring a waffle maker and make fresh waffles during lunch. You're getting fresh waffles that taste good and you won't have to spend too much money on buying that crap food most schools have.

this is exactly what i was thinking. well when i first read this thread i thought you meant like some type of fungus in your gym locker or something. like it was a fungus that evolves into some vicious animal that you have to feed one of your friends everyday just to get your gym shorts.

my parents know about this shit.
my mom says "red alder", but my dad disagreed whole heartedly saying "the lack of light would surely kill it." She responded with "no no, she said the kid was gonna put a bunch of light in the locker"...
my dad says, "fast growing trees are: willows, alders, poplars"
then he said "hemlocks like the shade, he should plant a hemlock."

what if the tree dies? will your day/month/year be ruined because of the tree? this seems like a pretty risky happiness-creating venture.

ficus is a good one, but look up bonsai trees. theyre like mini trees that would be fine in a small place, but you do need a light for so it wont die. or you could get like a bamboo decoration
