I want to paint a helmet...I was thinking I wanted it to say Hungry Sloth in a gradient.
So naturally I'd make a gradient, then put a stencil of the letters on top then spray paint the whole thing black or something
my question is...how do I make a solid gradient with paint?
also, I was thinking of doing a vanilla sky looking graphic. Any tips??
hungry sloth thanks you

ive never done this, nor do i know anything about art, but if you could get a spray paint that stays on the helmet, you should be able to make a good gradient with spray can paint, its fairly easy to make gradients with them

yes I know what paint to use and how to make it stick well, I just need to know how to make a gradient with spray paint!
do I hold it at an extremely obtuse angle or something?

just start with the middle color (ill assume your using 3 colors) and then just start from either side and move it over until it and the first color start to blend, and when it looks good enough, do it to the other side, hold the can far enough away so it leaves kind of a glow around it, use that glow to mix the colors

just spray and bring the can farther away from the helmet as you go, practice a few times before you do it. you have to do it pretty fast though.

I've never seen a paint job on a helmet or pair of skis that looked good after being skied with for a couple weeks. The paint will just chip off eventually and then it looks really bad.

you have to use the right kind of paint. I was going to use Krylon paints, made specifically for plastice. I was going to sand it, then do a primer coating. then a few layers of white, then the gradient, then whatever color on top of that, then like 7 clear coats.
it sticks pretty well that way. Just using any spraypaint you find in your garage will most definately chip off easily.

clear coat is a good idea, you may want to even think about putting some clear vinyl on it, and melting it on with a hair dryer, just an idea
