Amazing. Not a single thread. I expected there to be one about 2 pages long by now. What happened, everyone decide we don't give a shit? Well whatever. If anyone watched it, what did you think?

I thought Obama sounded a little awkward. Far more so than in most of his public appearances. He stumbled a bit. That said, his answers were well thought out and usually provided at least three points in response to whatever the question was.

Hillary went a long way in convincing everyone watching tonight that she's not a huge unelectable bitch... she was collected, professional, and if not warm, she looked like someone you could stand to be around. And her answers offered their usual candour and strong understanding of the issues at hand. Too much "I was NY senator on 9/11" stuff, but Giuliani still holds the title on beating that drum.

Chris Dodd was the biggest surprise for me. I found that literally everything he said made perfect sense. I don't agree with him on gay marriage (I'm for it), but his way of framing the issue was compelling and well-expressed. He's very well spoken and he's absolutely a legitimate candidate.

Biden is obviously the best candidate on Iraq issues from either parties, he understands the situation better and is better at explaining the problems and potential solutions than anyone I've heard speak. Richardson has a lot of foreign policy experience as well and is absolutely qualified, and is following Joe's lead here.

John Edwards came across as likable, honest, and compelling. Every one of his answers was personal and came across as truthful and emotionally driven. It's the first time I've really liked a performance by him.

As far as I'm concerned, Biden and Dodd were the big winners... the front-runners couldn't make many gains from where they sat, but these two guys lifted themselves up to their level and in some ways, exceeded them.

The problem is Dodd isn't a very successful compaigner I mean, who knows him? Not many people. Who knows Obama? Who knows Edwards? Who knows Clinton? alot of people, I think under-advertisation if that makes sense is going to hurt Dodd's chances of becoming president. Other then that I thought they all did well Obama did a fine job I thought.

That's the thing though, that's what these debates are supposed to change. I didn't know much about him either aside from a few occasional news stories. Now I do though. He and Biden gained a lot of ground, and hopefully people will hear about them soon. More choices can't hurt!

thats actually a good point. you never really think about how much a good name can really help. like a good old fashion american name is just so much more appealing to the american  people.

I agree Dodd and Biden got there names out to people who like politics and watch this kind of shit. But the average american sees Obama on Oprah or Clinton on the news ranting about video game violence, so chances of them winning are very low.

dennis is my man...i agree with everything he says. obama sounded pretty good for his first debate...biden sounded the best, although he has done it before, so he knows how to work it. Edwards got screwed, just didn't do very well. I didn't like what HRC had to say very much.

what i have to say to all the candidates except for kucinich is...answer the god damned question you are asked.

Kucinich is just plain nuts. He's necessary to keep the debates on track, to make sure everyone answers the hard questions, but thank God he has no chance. For you guys, I mean. For the rest of the world I'm sure he'd be a big help, but the spending alone... jeeesus. His wife is hot though, what the hell is she thinking?

bidden then dodd i dont agree with jd on how he thought some of them were warm and seemed nice. their performance ie acting totally put me off. they do know how to talk a lot with out giving a stance

No one else found Edwards to be coming across as more down-to-earth and honest in the tone of his responses than the others? Especially the one about moral leadership, and his talking about where he came from. I know that's his angle, but when your angle is being honest (the public acknowledgement of making a mistake)...

Totally true. That's his weakness, because his strategy is honesty and personal connection (which was also Bush's strategy in 2000). He's trying to win by talking to people on a less political and more personal level. I don't think it appeals to me, though I can see why it'd appeal to some.

completely unitelligent post...more spending, big deal? the country needs to be taxing the upper class to support those who cannot afford health care. Kucinich understands that our imperialist view will not work...

capitalism is a failure, this country needs kucinich

and the wife comment? maybe she understands that Dennis isn't the average bureaucrat politician and he actually cares about the proletariat.

My first and last sentences were "he's nuts" and "his wife is hot". You're judging my political opinions based on that? If anyone's unintelligent here...

Kucinich's opinions on war appear to be that if elected he can end war permanently. He's incredibly naive. His proposals would cost an absurd amount and even the absurd new taxes he'd have to levy wouldn't cover it. His idea to impeach Cheney is a huge waste of time, it'll never go through, and it'd take longer than the Bush administration has left in office to get done even if it could, so he's just spending money and a portion of the democratic discourse that could be centered on health care, education reform and a realistic solution on Iraq on something that makes them sound like shrieking activists. The guy is just plain unrealistic... he's like the Anti-Biden. And no, he has absolutely no chance. So enjoy the obscurity in supporting him.

Kucinich's plan for leaving Iraq is the only coherent outline that I have read. I would be very excited to hear your opinion jd may, on what should be done with that mess that the Bush (administration) has our country involved with. If it's better than the Kucinich plan, i'll stop my argument right now.

I just read his stance on all of the issues on his site and I'm impressed and amazed. I hear nothing about him, yet he has impressive plans and ideas.

Exactly as I said above. If other guy had read what I wrote he'd have noticed. Biden's got the right ideas, and Bill Richardson is on board. Decentralized government - it just makes sense. Where did you read it? If you have a link that'd be good, I didn't know it was written down, I've just heard him talk about it.

okay, just watched it and here's an abbreviated version of what i think.

Biden wins. Period. he was by far the strongest candidate out there.

Barack Obama was equally strong on some points, but faltered a little on some issues of race. he is going to have enough problems getting elected just being black, he doesn't need the notion that he is out to fix america for the minorities.

Hilary Clinton. Stop smirking you fucking cunt, and take that necklace off before i give you a true "pearl necklace". maybe that was harsh, but i REALLY don't like her.

and everyone else was barely worth listening to, with some obvious exceptions regarding each of their strong points.

like i said, an abbreviated version.

Dodd at least i had seen on The Daily Show before.

JD, do you think that anyone else but Obama or Clinton will actually get the nod? Or is that still a long shot?

Biden has some great ideas...but his plan for iraq seems very very unfeasible, you have to agree that the plan he proposes cannot work. I mean, really, we might as well give the Israelis a slice of Iraq too.
