Alright let me start this off by saying that a few months ago I remember EastCoast_destruction making a thread about how many posers he sees in the park and how aggrivated it made him (sorry dude not trying to call you out... just an example). I've seen statements like this made by a ton of people, and it kind of pisses me off.

Although there are certain exceptions, but I don't see why kids have to be dicks to other kids just because they aren't as good as them but may have better gear. For all you know, that kid might have bagged groceries all summer to pay for his Oakley suit and T-Hall's. Just because he can't slide rails as good as you or can't do certain jumps doesn't mean you have the right to call him a poser. Most kids I know get pissed at the kids that just stand there and watch but don't hit anything, but the reason they don't hit anything is because they are afraid of falling and getting shit from other kids. And yes, I know in some instances there are kids that ski less than 5 times a year but have mommy and daddy buy all this new gear for them... but how are you to know who paid for this kid's stuff if you've never even talked to him before?

I'm sorry that I suck at explaining things because it's kind of hard, but I think we should all just ski and let ski. And not care about the bullshit things like how some kids don't use poles and some kids suck at skiing but have dope set-ups.

Feel free to say your opinions... that's just my two cents.

i agree ski and let ski i hate to saay it but sometimes i feel liek one of those kids in the park cuz i just went back to skiin a month ago from boarding so im not one of those like 270 on shit on rails but i mean i see people who are stil worse but stil if they arent asses then who gives a shit

WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING? The % is thru the roof compared to other sports.

I think you can be a good skier and also be a major poser as well. If you feel that you have to advertise that you're the shit by what you wear, guess what? You isn't da shit!

i dont think that kids are necessarily posers if they wear xl and xxl clothing. Kids are posers if they can't ski for shit and try to be steezy and throw down in the park and make themselves look like retards. I'm a firm believer that you should be a decent skier before you go start trying to look like tanner hall in the park.

i ignore them.let them wear what they want!i dont care if they convinced their prnts 2 buy them a 1500$ setup! as long as they dont fuck around in the landings.or block the tranny or something.

i completely agree with this, i worked two jobs over the summer to get my skis,bindings, clothes, everything else even tho im 15 and i cant do anything more than a 360
i just like skiing a lot and ill probably get better as i get older

i completly agree with this statement.I'm afraid to hit some jumps and rails cause i fell when on a 50 foot jump when i was 9 and ended up tearing my right knee ligament and got really afraid of stuff.I did my first 3 this and this was my second year of park.I also did my first rail this year. Some of the people i ski with are really good and help me out and don't give me crap but i don't like skiing at other places cause i don't want to be flamed.

The only kids I have problems with in the parks are the ones who feel the need to walk UP the jump when they don't have enough speed to hit it, and the ones that take forever to clear the landing area

Clothes don't bother me anymore, it's attitude. I would have hated myself if I had met someone exactly like me a couple seasons ago.I was a major claimer before people gave me shit at high north and on here. Not fun being a claimer. Don't claim unless you're stoked. I yelled "FUCK YEAH" after my first flip ever but I mean, come on it's a first flip. You can yell all day for that. In fact, you can do that every time you take a new progressive step in your skiing.

it's sometimes a let down, because the stereotype is : good gear = good skiers.

and you can't say that isn't the case, people who spend more time and effort into skiing put more time and effort into their gear, people who put more time and effort into their skiing are better.

so when i see a nig in the park im like damn i can't wait for him to bust out and then he skis away i always kinda die a little inside, because i expect someone with better gear than me to be better than me

OK. So I’m finally popping my posting cherry b/c I have something to say that hasn’t yet been said. I’m not one for ‘the repeater’. I must say I was scared to post, but most comments on this thread have been very level headed and cool. I am however braced for backlash purely because I’m a noob.

 

First off, great thread…it makes people like me not feel like such a douche. When I first started skiing at the beginning of the season, I felt like a total tool in my ‘nice’ gear…so sometimes I threw in my old gear to draw less attention to myself. This thread really shows the unity of skiing (minus a few black sheep comments) and I’m proud to ski.  

 

Here’s another perspective on people rocking sweet gear: I’m not a ‘beginner’ (only in the sense of skiing), I have a season’s pass and I love to ski. I can’t throw down a cork 9 or a steezy rodeo, but I do wear all new gear and have at times watched people hit rails. One thing I’m not is a poser. I have nice gear because I’ve been a snowboarder for 17 years (skied before that). I bought it at the beginning of the season when I was still snowboarding and didn’t yet have my skis (waiting for them to go on sale). If you are going to knock me for being a snowboarder, I’m over it…because I’m fully converted baby and can’t wait to hit the hill next season with my new two plank lovers!

I use to make fun of kids who suck and now I still do. I can't help it. I'm not that good either but when I see a little snowboarder go to the lip of a jump with not enough speed and then start sliding back down It's just too much.

I need to stop making fun of kids that suck. Sometimes I'm more chill though

precisely - people have to buy stuff to keep the ski industry going - and so what if there are people who have good stuff but are a bit timid - if they're out there doing it good for them much better than watching tv (like fat people out jogging u know?)

but seriously if you're up there skiing and loving it that's all that matters

this reminds me of my "friend" who snowboards. like 2 years ago he told everyone he could do backflips and 720s grind mad kink rails etc. etc. well this year my friend who snowboards decided to take him. he was afraid to hit jumps that were 5 ft. high with not even 10 ft. gaps. all i did was make fun of him. that is what i HATE is when kids say they can do shit and cant. i dont care if you suck at it its fine with me dude i just like having fun. just thought id share that little story....

about the injuries. i wouldnt agree with you so much. i now what you mean with some people, but i wouldnt have the balls to call someone out. i had my knee kicked in playing soccer and for two years it fucking hurt to jump, it didnt look like it to anyone else. it wouldnt give out and make me eat shit on the landing, but one or two cases and it would hurt like a bitch, hell even just landing smooth all day would make it hurt like a bitch. i wouldnt want to try anything new because if i didnt land completely square on something it would be fucked for a week. this spring is the first time i could jump knowing that landing wasn't going to hurt. worst thing was, before that, i was somewhat decent. when you can't even do you stock tricks anymore you feel like a poser yourself and you sometimes feel like letting people know your an old and injured and you normally dont blow ass.

old injuries that are worth something mess with your head, even when they are healed. i kind of know what you mean though, if someone claims and then goes back to their injury excuse its not cool.

ps. while your gash is quite horrific looking. a cut is nothing compared to a joint problem. it does not play mental games with you. no one is afraid to bleed, but most people are afraid to completely fuck their knee and never be able to do sports again.

i agree with you. my sister was a really good ski racer until she had a stupid crash training when she was like 14. she seriously fucked up her knee, and although it was doing well after like six months, she had to wear a brace on it for like two years. she qualified for JOs and such before the crash, but afterwards she was just kind of mediocre. now she just free skis, but she's still somewhat gentle on that knee and she's not nearly as ballsy now as she was before the injury.

she's had tons of sick flesh wounds, but the knee injury is the only thing that's affected her mind.
