We are doing this whole eco-friendly unit in school, and it really got me thinking, and im thinking about becoming a vegitarian. what do you guys think??are any of you vegitarians??
i'm not... but my brother is. and as long as you don't push your ideals on others, it's totally cool. but be careful. it's super easy to become malnurished by cutting meat. make sure you eat the right veggies to get protein.
yeha eat alot of beans and lentils because the main thing you lose by cutting meat is protein which leads to atrophying muscles. ggood luck though dude
I am a vegetarian but i still eat seafood. I don't like meat but i am also morally opposed to the way america's economy is based on fat people eating steak. it takes 7 lbs of grain for each pound of beef grown. roughly 90% of all of the grain grown in america goes to meet productions. think of all the hungry people we could feed with all that grain
it's not necessarily an eco thing. some people are just grossed out by eating animals (i.e. my brother). and if you're a healthy veggie (lots of protien rich beans, etc...), it's much more healthy then even the most organic of meats.
its unhealthy to be a vegi, because with meat you get better things then in vegi's like protien, and other stuff, studys show that you will be more unhealthy if youre a vegi
Your way wrong man. You can get all the protein you need by eating the right combinations of food. Plus vegitarians eat lower on the food chain so they get more energy. The rule of 10% means when the consumer eats the producer the consumer only gets 10% of that energy and so on. So being a vegitarian has pro's and con's just like everything else. I personally think its a healthier way to live your life.
I am. Actually, I still have to eat salmon, tuna, chicken and turkey, but I avoid those if possible. I eat a lot of tofu, milk products, and eggs etc. I always hated meat so it was really easy to give up. I just really love animals so that's basically why I did it.
A lot of common things have meat products in them though, like jello is partly from the bones of cows and some yogourt also has gelatin in it. I was surprised to find this out so I just started getting kosher yogourt and other kosher foods, which don't contain meat products. easy solution..
Some people don't do well as vegetarians though, like my sister was a vegetarian for 5 or 6 years and she went back to eating meat a year or so ago. So don't feel like you have to stick with it if you really want to eat meat.
i havent eaten any product that comes from a pig in like 5 or 6 years
but on that note, i still do eat steak, chicken, turkey, etc
i couldnt give up those things though, due to health problems bullshit, so yah, i wish i could switch to vegetarian though, im jealous
my friends been a vegetarian for close to 7 years now and she is the healthiest/most energetic person i know (which is why im jealous), ive seen her sick ONCE and it was with a virus that was spreading like wildfire through the school. she's just super smart about it, visits a nutrionist weekly, watches what she eats, etc. also she doesnt preach about it at all
Why are you ask if being a vegetarian is cool? Being a vegetarian is a silent protest against animal "murder". Sure its not cool, but if you truly believe in it, go right ahead, nothing is stopping you. Just make sure you get the essential nutriments. Most vegetables dont have protein...remember that.
well heres why i think being a vegetarian is stupid:
we are omnivores. we require nutrients from plants AND animals to live healthy. well of course you can drink protien shakes or whatever, but thats not real animal protien. atleast we kill our animals before we eat it. look at cheetahs and cougars they fuckin slaughter their prey and eat it alive. imagine if any humans were caught doing that? see we are animals too but were nice enough to kill our animals rather than torture the fuck out of them and make them watch us eat them alive. plus how could you torture yourself on not enjoying the delicious, lucious juices squirting from a medium-cooked peppersteak...or home grilled burgers....meat is absolutely delicious. fuck you peta it would be alot worse. we like our meat.
It's actually more than ten pounds of feed for each pound of meat. Just in the natural world, theres a more than 10 to one ratio in trophic levels of biomass going up the food chain, and that ratio gets worse due to the massive inefficiencies of our production system. I'm vegitarian, and anyone saying that it's unhealthy has no idea what the fuck they are talking about. The vast majority of vegitarians get more than enough protein. Also, consider that the level of toxins and contaminants present in meat are more than ten times higher than those in vegetables and grains because of the biomagnification. Remember DDT and rachel carson? A great example of this. IT wasn't the fish and lower animals on the foodchain dying because the amount of ddt in their system wasn't nearly as high as the eagles and other predators that fed on them. Both the American Dietic Association and the Dietitians of Canada reccomend vegetarian diets as a heart-healthy and safe option. I think they know a little more than any of you saying that I don't get enough protein.
see I think meat is disgusting, like steaks, burgers, ground beef, roasts, ribs, any dark meat or chicken on the bone... etc (I don't even like soy ground beef or chicken-style tofu). it's just a personal thing though, but some people would think plain tofu is gross, and I'm like how can you say that, tofu is great! so it really just depends on the person!
i'm a vegetarian, but not a very strict one, i'll still eat beef and pork...........and chicken, come to think of it i'm not a vegeterian, but i do like salad
I have atleast 4 different friends that are vegitareans and I totaly respect them for it, they aren't like "hippies" they just dont like the idea of eating meat i guess, I totaly wish I could follow through with it but I couldnt take it without in n out and taco bell, they're really chill about it too like they dont push it on people they just chill and eat french fries.
i didnt read any of your responses cause i've been eating meat for ever so i dont wanna argue, but basically its stupid to be all veggie, you should just support local and organic.
not for the I love animals thing (which i do) but i think thats a stupid reason not to eat meat since were omnivours but anyways
becuase of this whole theory i have with trophic levels and the extreme inefficieny of raising cattle... i could get into it and give you crazy statistics that will make you go "wow"... but im going to go eat dinner.
but ya, I'll only get meat from Whole Foods, never eat McDonalds (cept if im skiing, cause its neccescary), and Make Sure Stuff is Organic, whats my benefit from Estrogen? And Now all the shit with Cloned Meat whats that all about, what are the long term effects of this gonna be.
I've often thought about Vegaterianism (sp?) but never could do it, its not pratical for the lifestyle, or area I live in. When I lived in Boston I rarely ate Red Meat, and substituted it with fish, and seafood, but since moving to the midwest thats a risky choice.
dude seriously being a vegitarean or vegan what ever is really just bad for your body. your brain needs vitamins and protein in meat for it to work properly. id recomend just cutting back on red meats for your healths sake if your interested in that but its completely natural for us as humans to eat meat cuz if you look in your mouth you will find sharp teeth.
I mean damn no ones mad at the alligator for eating too many fish and turtles and birds
