Quarter Finals:
Andreas Håtveit vs. Jacob Wester
In one of the hardest matchups to judge of the entire event, Jacob's double rodeo beat out Andreas' switch 14 nose.
Jon Olsson vs. Simon Dumont
Jon couldn't hold it together and for one of the first times I've ever seen, he fell. Dumont stomped his and went through.
TJ Schiller vs. Oscar Scherlin
Oscar didn't put the pads down perfectly, which allowed TJ to roll on through.
Martin Misof vs. PK Hunder
Martin, too, took a tumble and got up to cheers after being attended to by ski patrol.
Semi Finals:
Jacob Wester vs. TJ Schiller
Everyone's human, and even TJ falls sometimes. He couldn't hold it together after Jacob stomped a double rodeo 9.
PK Hunder vs. Simon Dumont
PK and Dumont stomped their tricks: PK a switch 10 and Dumont a 9
truck, both huge and stomped. The judges had a lot on their hands, and
decided PK's was worthy of the finals.
Consolation:
TJ Schiller vs. Simon Dumont
Simon and TJ decided to take it
easy and stop spinning so much. Both guys stomped beautiful 540s, and
the judges decided that TJ's took third.
Finals:
PK Hunder vs. Jacob Wester
Unlike the other matchups, the
finals was a best 2 out of 3 event that got the crowd rowdy! Jacob
crashed on both his first two runs, with PK stomping. Unfortunately for
PK, he couldn't get his second trick around to 14, stopping at 12 and
doing a trick he had already done earlier in the night. That meant the
second round went to Jacob, and they went back up for one final battle.
Jacob went absolutely massive, throwing some sort of spinning kangaroo
flip but crashing in a dramatic way, meaning all PK had to do was a
trick he hadn't yet done, and he had to land it. He stomped the crap
out of a 9 nose with typically amazing PK style, and rode right up to
the stage as the winner of the Final Episode of the Jon Olsson
Invitational.
With the show over, and PK standing in top spot on the podium,
the gates were knocked over and mayhem ensued as thousands of Swedes
ran to the front to get a better look. Photographers and filmers
cheated death as they jumped the fence to get inside the Green Zone.
What a rush! The people here are so stoked on skiers!
A couple speeches, a lot of chanting and several champagne
fights later, it was time to call it an event. But WAIT! The after
party. Have you ever heard that partying in Sweden is amazing? Well
unless you have experienced it for yourself, you do not know what
amazing means. The Keys to the City let us snake the massive line, go
into the velvet roped area and party like it was our last night on
earth. Hordes of girls lined the VIP area begging to come in, and
eventually they did. By the end of the night, shirts were all ripped
off and tossed around, champagne was flying, and the Bygget night club
and restaurant will never be the same again.
Many more photos of the action and partying are on their way, along with another video. Check back soon!
