so im looking for new skis next year, and id really like to get a true twin tip that will hold up on rails. I know the STL isnt a true twin, but i also like skis that are at least a 90 at waist. And its gotta be like over 175cm....any suggestions?...oh snap and my dad says if i get good enough grades, hell foot the bill so hopefully price is covered....
by true twin, do you mean that the tail height is the same as the tip height?! or are you after a symetrical ski (ie you can mount it either way at centre and it'll ride the same)?
STLs and watch lives both has a great rep, neither are symetrical but both are gonna ride nice switch and be fine mounted true centre or close to it.
I don't think STL's are 90 underfoot. Actually, I know they arne't. Get some Liberty SB's. They're 92 under foot and have that bamboo core and actually rip. STL's are badass too.
Pretty hard to find a park specific ski that's 90 underfoot. The Nordica Ignition is 88 underfoot, I ride them 1cm back from true center and they're sick. They butter real nice but still ride like a good ski unlike most park skis. Nice and fast for the pipe to
get the stl, it will hold up better than the watch lifes. i rode mine for a week and they look like i've been on them for 2 seasons. (the watchlifes that is)
How soft are the STL's? Next years look super sick and I've always wanted to get on 4Frnt, however I ride Karma's now and want a super soft ski to dick around on.
STL's have soft noses and a bit stiffer tail's (not very stiff thought)... I loved my STL's but the edge's have fallen apart from the rest of the ski twice... But that's warrenty....
check out 4frnt tnks. in the 175 or the 180. the 180 is about 90 underfoot if i'm not mistaken, and it's a park ski, and it totally kills it all mountain. such a fun ski.
awhile ago, whenever i saw a pair of stl's and watch life's from far i could never tell the difference.
i got up close to the stl's one day, and thought the graphics were the among the most horrid things i'd ever seen.
i saw the watch life's up close one day, too. among the most beautiful things i'd ever seen.
just for look, i would say the watch life's are much better than anything else out there. i'm sure if i got a pair and tried them out they would perform as well as they look, too. from what i've heard they're actually the best thing that has ever happened to a lot of people.
then again, a lot of people say things like "surface the company would get laughed out of any sport other than skiing" and the much more elaboate "surface is gay" and so on. i don't quite understand why that sort of thing would be said, but the opinions of these members should be respected and shared by you to the tee lest a mockery be made of you on the internet for supporting such a nice company.
aight so im thinking not stls cuase of thier rail credibility.....what do you guys think abou the ar6 and the addicts? i def. want something softer taht will hold up on rails for midwest (wisconsin)...and a little bit of groomers
ive had stls' and i have watch lifes now and they are way similar, i think i like the watch lifes a little more just cause they are a little lighter and alot of fun. the stls are way close though, they are stiffer so they are a little better for jumps.
Ive had mine for 3 seasons now, they are not broken, there is like one crack in the edge thats it.
All you people who say they fall apart must suck at skiing and you must constantly bash your shit together and you probably dont really know how to hit a raill......
They are definately buttery as hell, the swingweight on the STL is so fucking perfect. They do give me shinbang alot cause I butter on them so much
they say that because surface is based off a bunch of skiers who try to be different by trying to be artsy and doing the same tricks and being more stoked on their pants than their style. they end up all looking the same.
dude i put 50 days max on my stls. I was riding them at vail pass and my nose delamed. last time i checked skis dont usually delam in pow. You are lucky yours are holding up. I have just seen alot of pairs snap on landings off rails or jumps, and not because someone fucked up, its because of poor manufacturing. Dont get me wrong, they were super fun skis while they lasted
This is the close minded attitude that kills skiing daily. The kid probably knows nothing of Surface, except for the random posts he reads on this site.
i met two surface riders at hood last summer and all i can say is they didn't have a lot of interest in anyone in our group except for the riders wearing tight pants.
One of them had to be Blake and he is about as open minded as anyone on the planet. He may wear tight pants, but the kid hangs & skis w/ all types, everyday.
Surface and their riders are down. Just good people to be around.
People are people.
Skis are skis.
I think we're getting a little off topic, lets help our friend get a ski.
My opinion i sprobabaly biased, becasue, well, I really like what Surface is doing. I mean I'll be buying a pair next year, but thats a little off topic. Down to the point, my recomendation, before the actual ski, is the availability, and the price of it. Cause I mean you'd have to order the Surface's and all that jazz, But if you're willign to do it, then go for it, I know I will be!
Watch Life's are great, I am sure the STL is good too. However, I do know that the Watch Life's are on www.firefeliz.com for like $329.95 and for some reason they have a few pairs of the 2008 Watch Life's for sale too. Super good graphic on that one.
how am i wrong? it was a first person experience, i met him and ian in person and they were talking to the "tight panters" all friendly and pretty much denying the fact that the rest of us existed. maybe i got the wrong impression from them and they are actually good people? who knows?
Yah dude! They are great dudes...I was there with Blake that trip. We drove through the night from SLC to ski one day and do a photo shoot with Becker. Maybe he was loosing circulation in his balls from wearing tight pants and was being nice to the other tight pant kids because he sympathized with the pain they were in.
cause it was probably their friends, i usually talk mostly to my friends when im skiing and not much to anyone else. 9thward riders wear big ass baggy gangster shit and they are doing their own thing just like surface. nothing wrong with that.
but atleast surface dresses like their own race.
