Anyone know anything about torrents?

You may need to open some ports if you are behind a router or firewall. I'm not sure about Azureus, but Bittorrent traffic by default is routed to ports 6881-6889, so without those open your upload/download speeds will suffer.

Also, some torrents (especially from public trackers) just plain suck. I usually start 3-4 at first and find which one is the fastest. Remember, you want a good ratio of seeders/leechers (more seeds=better, less leechers=better) for optimum speeds.

on my azureus i set my main open port to 6881

and go to my settings on my linksys routers, for applicatinos and gaming, and open ports 6881-6882 using both tcp and udp on my IP address, which urs should be .100 or .101 depending on how many computers connect to your router, which u can check under local area settings > dhcp clients table

right click on the torrent and change your max upload speed, put it as high as it can go, otherwise it can limit it.

it depends on how fast the other users are uploading as well, if they are uploading slowly, then you will have a slow download rate.

He knows whats up. Also, try updating the tracker frequently so that you can connect to more seeds. Its very important that you forward your ports (http://www.portforward.com is very helpful). Also you may have to modify your firewall settings.
