it is more right than other books such as the koran because it has never been proven wrong....and it has many examples written in the Bible that are visible today Noah's Ark, Pieces from pharoahs chariots in the Red Sea, Dead Sea Scrolls, Jesus burial cloth Shroud of Turin (which cant be explained by skeptics) the only explanation for this is that it is the actual burial cloth that Jesus was covered with when he ressurrected from the dead

except for the big bang theory states that there was nothing and then there was a small dot which was all the matter in the universe compressed into a small area, then it blew up.....how can something come out of nothing....and wouldnt humans still be evolving to this day

youd be suprised at what the space we live in can do....im no astonomer, but its amazing whats happening out there. And yes, humans are evolving, were becoming imune to diseases, adapting to extreme heat, and cold, etc. But becasue we have been able to adapt our evironment rather than the other way around, there has been less of a need for evolution, but its happening, slowly but surley.

your right that nothing can come from nothing because of the law of conservation of matter, but it is however, possible that there was a chain reaction of chemicals in space that caused them to clump, creating planets, stars, and what not. There are hundreds of theories as to how the big bang happened, but i personally dont understand how you can honestly think that a god created everything....even then soemthing cant come from nothing, unless god can create our universe, plus the millions of other universises around us, which isnt feasible, even on a devine level

the astronamers have done tests to see whether galaxies are moving away or toward us which is called the doppler affect i think and it has been proven that there are galaxies moving away and toward us...saying so all the galaxies would be going in one direction so either there was multiple big bangs in different locations or it is false

i know this has been said, but to explain it better; monkeys are evolving, it just takes a long ass time. Human evolution has slowed WAY WAY down because almost everything we lack we can make up for with stuff we make. The biggest change in humans is height. the average man in the US civil-war era was 5' 4". Nowadays, our average height is 5'9". and in the future, average person will be about 6 ft.

Well, I am agnostic, and I have 5 cats and a dog, although we used to have 11 cats.
I think Jesus existed, but not in the catholic sense (an immaculately conceived white guy running around performing miracles); he was just a normal guy who was really nice and all. And middle-eastern too, not "aryan" obviously... and he died, and was not resurrected, and was not the son of god.
just for the record though, not all Christians are crazy like 7th day adventists or baptists or catholics. Some are very liberal, like my family. Not me, just the rest of my family. Also, I don't believe in creationism, Adam/Eve, immaculate conception, heaven/hell, convenient apparitions of god, and some other religious concepts.

To answer a few questions, we may be able to see the big bang because the image of it travels so slowly through space, the telescope they are building may be able to see it. It was so far away, it is possible that we on earth see it in a couple million years, assuming the earth is still here.

And drew is right, you obviously dont have a very good grasp on evolution. Anyone that went through high school (or still in it like me) should know that evolution is the advancing of a species to adapt to its environment, some monkeys needed to adapt, some didnt, that is why we are humans, and they are monkeys. I tihnk you can try to understand it from there

Done.. It doesn't mean it really covered the whole world or Noah really had 2 of everything ona big, really really big, boat. just that there was a flood and people remembered it in thier cultural memories and now we have proof of it happening.

2000 years from now people will wonder why there are all sorts of household items on the bottom of the gulf of Mexico too, Katrina did it, not god.

if there was a worldwide flood that means that shells would wash up on mountain sides.....ocean shells dont just end up on 14,000 feet high mountain sides by themselves....they have to be moved and the only logical explanation for this is that there was a worldwide flood.....plus how do you explain noah's ark

Guy.. they thought he world consisted of about half of europe and some of central asia and North Africa.

It could have been a flood of the Mediterranian for all they knew. don't forget the world was flat then too...
That's the official line from the church until the mid 1400's.

The aztecs and Inca were around then, but there's no evidence of a flood in central America at the time.

sorry.. It is a good story, very exciting, even a little better than Harry Potter. And I do know my stuff here, I came pretty close to joining the seminary at a younger age.

ever heard of continental drifting? well, if you haven't google it. when tectonic plates collide on is pushed downwards and the other one is pushed upwards, that way areas of the earths surface which was once ocean (with seashells) becomes mountains.

just by finding his tomb does nothing to prove he's a normal human, it's a fact that when Jesus was crucified, he was put in a tomb. if they found his remains in a tomb, then that would show that he did not become resurrected, then claims can be made. but as far as we know now, they have found a tomb, and who knows if it was Jesus'. plus, some Christians already believe that Jesus was just a normal human who was kind of the equivalent to Mohammad to Islam. so who knows? it's best not to bring it up on NS because religious threads never get anywhere productively.

"On the Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin plausibly explains how all the organisms of the world came to their modern state. The bible's answer to the creation of life is that it just happened. "God did it" is the bible's answer to almost every question, and often science has since discovered actual explanations.

How can you prove the Bible wrong when there isn't a whole lot that can be disproved? A large part of the Bible is moral teaching and symbolism. You can't disprove the Gospel. You can't disprove the Creation story either because much of it is symbolic, and not meant to be taken literally (unless you're a Christian fundamentalist).

Genesis 1 is an excellent example of scientific error in the Hebrew Testiment ("The Bible"). Humans were not created by the gods (Elohim); plants did not predate the sun; a global flood did not occur; Noah did not build an ark, since it was, and is, impossible; snakes do not talk; females were not created out of a rib.

Moving on to Genesis 2. The universe was not made out of water; the Earth does not rest upon four pillars, nor is there a bronze dome covering it, nore does rain issue forth out of crystal gates.

Exodus has sun and moon caesing their movements for "about a day;" a hord of from 2,500,000 to 3,000,000 Isrealites wandering a tiny desert for 40 years, which is, of course, impossible.

Moving to Psalms, Baphomet did not swallow the universe; the universe was not made out of water (again)....

One can go on and on and point out other examples, and of course there is no need. I have yet to find a single chapter throughout the entire Hebrew and Christian Testements, that do not have scientific errors.

The historical errors are just as blatent.

jesus doesn't need to be real or not to be believed in. its like santa. we all know santa isn't real, and if he was, would that change our perception of him? no. ask anybody to draw a picture of santa, they think of a jolly fat man in a red suit with a white beard. that's not nothing. same as jesus. anybody can draw the symbol of the christ. its simply a cross. are you trying to say that also is nothing? religion gives people hope, just as santa gives children hope. whether jesus is real or not, or the scientific evidence behind it means nothing.

jesus the individual with his own message outside the context of the curch is what would remain. There shpuld be a distinction between individuals for peace love..etc. which jesus stood for and the agendas and the intollerances of churches that use him to propagate their own messages. i would hope that this situation could help make jesus more of that individual and less of a tool of the church

They believe that in the tom they found Joseoh (Jesuses Dad), Mary (Mama), Mary (Wife), Jude (Jesuses Son), and James (Jesuses Brother). The reason his body was gone from the original tomb is not the resurrection its the movage.
