I think my DIN setting is too high.

Right now im skiing 07 public enemies with rossi axial 2 binders. i weight 180 lbs and am 6' 3". I consider my self a intermediate skier. when i took my skis to get mounted they put the binders at a DIN of 8. I dont remember what the Din was on my volkls w/ marker bindings were but im pretty sure that they were lower. When i took them out this weekend i fell a couple times and they never came off. Maybe i got this all wrong and its nothing but i wanna play it safe because i dont wanna fuck up my knees. any help would be awesome.
Thanks!

Your shop will set them accordingly.
If your an aggressive skier and at your size 8 sounds about right.
Im 6ft 160 and i ride at 8... shops usually set it at about 7.

well, it also depends on how you fell, say if you were turning and caught an edge, falling forward onto your side, they probably shouldn't release, but if you have a twisting fall or strait over the front of your skis than they probably should have depending on the intensity of the fall and pressure put on the bindings.

If you told your ski shop your sole length, hight, and weight and ski level 2 and they set them at 8, they are supposed to be set at 8.
Nothing is stopping you from lowering them to 7.5 or 7. But your risking when you need your skis to stay on and they fly off your gonna bail. It's a fine balance.

they never asked me a number to classify my self as... they just asked if i was beginner, intermediate, or advanced. i said intermediate.

if you want it lower then lower it. if they come off too much raise it a little bit, just play with them till you like the setting, and remember it for next time you get new bindings.

a din of 8 is just fine for you. they are supposed to stay on if you just fall, that way you don't have to hike to get your skis every time. unless you had some major crashes and/or torque from your shins to your skis, they should stay one. and with your size and weight, I wouldn't say that 8 is too high

yo think of it this way if ur markers were at 14 then ur new bindings are aboot the right spot (marker bindings seem to release alot easier then rossi/look/salo etc.)

If your boot sole length is between 271-290mm, 8 would be correct.

seriously, if you arent weak, too much is better than not enough. im 155 and din is 10. it pops out fairly often. if your 180, I doubt that your leg would snap in the case of a bad crash

Im 5 8 140 and my din is at 8 on my axial2's. My shop only put it at 6, but i was popping out too much. Im a pretty agressive skier, and now i only pop out when i need to (pretty hard fall).

Don't fall into the misconception that you can't hurt your knees when your bindings fall off... its called pre-release. I had markers on a pair of skis, came off when I landed slight backseat in soft snow, tore my mcl on the fall... mcl of the leg that popped off... if the shop says they should be at 8... and so do the charts, leave them, also if you don't know what they should be, leave them... shope sets me at 8 for a 5-10 180 level 3, I put the toes to 10 and heels to 9/9+ a lil... leave em

if you want them to set it higher at the shop, put yourself at 3+ or 3++, thats what i always do otherwise they wont put it very high.

yea man, they are fine. dont lower it. a bad prerelease is JUST as bad as not releasing. im alot lighter than you with a bigger boot, and i ski roughly an 8 to 12 din depending on what im doing. like someone said, they SHOULDNT pop off every time you fall. they should, however pop whenever there is signifigant tourque applied to them. at your size, an 8 is not that high. its a correct setting.

get your bindings tested, if they pass have them adjust you din to type 3 skier

i ride with a din of 8 and i'm 6foot2 180 pounds. But the main question for you is are you coming out of your skis when you want to and staying in your skis when you want to? Example: today i hit a C box at a little to much of an angle and trashed myself over it and front flipped down the other side, I came out of my skis and i'm happy i did.

I ride a din of 8-9.5 i'm 6'3 and 185 lbs. Sometimes i just come out randomly and rediculously.. but overall they stay on when I need it and come off when I need it.
Don't 'play' with your bindings if you're not having issues. High DIN doesn't mean bigger balls. If you don't need it.. don't crank it.. b/c you'll be sorry when you tear up your knee. If you are going to go up in din.. only go a 1/2 din at a time.

im 195 and i ride at an 8.5 and i classified myself as a advanced and i still pop out often enough. for example i landed a 3 in about two feet of fresh this weekend and just got launched and as a result got a face full. a little irritated by that. tried it again and the same thing happened. i have tender knees though so i leave it a little easier to come out. if it seems to hard to come out of then just lower it to 7.5, try that for a day, if thats still to high try 7, and so on until you find a din you like
All times are Eastern (-5)
