Pep, Andy, Eric. Do you think these guys can cut through the hatin' and progress skiing in another direction, riding with big fuckin' skis and no poles most of the time. I always hated no poles, but these guys in my mind could legitimize it, or at least make it not generally frowned upon. I even LIKE them riding with no poles, it fits their style. They are just so damn good the poles dont bother me. FILM THE IDEA.
its cause honestly, poles arent necessary in the park. I personally think it is better to use them always, but they are not necessary in the park at all. Another thing is that with the double grabs, alot of people leave their poles behind to practice grabbing with both hands, that way they dont stab themselves. If you are going to be riding steep pow or moguls though, good luck without poles.
skiing with out poles really helps your learn balance and how to ski using your body, so when you put some poles in ur had again you are real comfortable
Also rocking no poles is lots of fun, and grabbing feels so good, good way to learn new grabs as well
However, I think it comes down to what a person is used to. I've been skiing for almost almost 16 years and personally I don't like the style with no poles. It reminds me too much of the bunny hill when I was a kid.
BUT
I don't object to anyone not using poles. In essence, whatever floats your boat.
Ive only riden no poles a few times and its pretty fun but im forced too now cause i broke my thumb and my cast is so huge i can barely hold on to one.
im tired of hate. there are only a select few who rep the no poles. theyre like tele skiers in the park, they rip. leave them be just prop them on the things they do.
Reppin the streets.Â
I like you
I'm thinking about dropping the poles... they are getting annoying... it's just a lot harder to ski no poles out of the park, which is where I ski a lot of the time
def looks stupid, but it's like training for racing for all you ex-racers: just gives you alot of confidence and balance, and grabs are easier. i don't think i'll ever ski without poles for good, but it's awesome for a few runs or a day of practice.
What you imbiciles don't realize is that riding with or without poles is not for looks even though your puny little pip squeak brains are only interested in how vain each other are. POLES ARE TOOLS! They are an aid for getting around. There are instinces where poles are necessary and when they are not. Park...Not. Alaska... you do the math.
i think this whole no poles thing came becaue of snowboarders not needing poles and only having a board. kinda like skate boarding or surfing as well. just your body and one surface. so instead of using "four" things to ski we are only using two. however thats still one more than boarders use so...ya i guess they still beat us then. it looks like the old days when we were kids or olympic freestyle. no poles is fun i must admit however until the day when someone can ski a line of deep pow without poles(not just cliff drops or park), i think ill stick to the sticks.
I think no poles is actually pretty progressive. I think to counter the lowered turning and balance though, we should start riding much shorter skis, making it easy to jump turn and spin without the poles. Something like 110-90cm would be pretty much ideal.
i forgot my poles at home a few times, and started skiing with no poles, so now i dont even use my poles anymore, in the park, after u get used to not having something in ur hand u feel so free
i like poles in bc tho, i live about 6 hours from mammoth, and i went up for a weekend but i forgot my poles at home and i was like shit, cause it snowed like 3-4 feet from thursday till sunday and i wanted to ski pow anyways so i went for the nopoles in pow, it was some of the best pow ive ever skied, it is more difficult to ski nopoles in powder but u get alot better of a workout. ive put in about 60 days nopoles this year so poles feel awkward for me in the park so it wasnt that hard for me to ski pow nopoles, but it sucks when u get stuck or fall over in sierra cement and u need to get up
No poles is fun as hell. when im having an off day i just throw my poles in the woods and ski no poles for a few hours. it helps your grabing and your overall style a ton. after i get sick of no poles i go get my poles outta the woods and start skiing good again. its a pretty sweet concept
