Riding Switch and center mounting

So my 07 Fujas are mounted back from center, seems like quite a bit. Anyway is it a lot easier to ride switch if they are dead center. I will re mount them if its a big difference but if it's not I'll just keep em the way they are. I ski exclusively in the park and on the way to the park (chutes) and sometimes in pow and doing butters. I have other skis for carving/ all mtn. so I could care less if these suck at regular skiing. Will it be easier to butter and ski switch if they are mounted dead center? or is it not really worth mounting again? I really wanna ski/land/jump switch so would it be worth it to mount bindings again?

its kind of preference, i find it a bit easier to have them mounted a couple back from center, but its not a problem for me carving on a dead center, how far back are they and wat size ski?

center mount makes it much easier for anything at switch.

Damnit. I wish I told them to mount dead center when I first bought them. They are 169 and I'm 5'10 145 lbs. I feel like a noob but how do I tell how far back they are is it with the toe or heel piece and what part?

^ very true
I did a true center mount (equal distance from tip and tail) on my 169 Vicious. Anything switch feels great but riding regular in powder forces me to sit hella far back on my tails. Talk about feeling the burn. I think you should've gotten longer skis, especially if you plan to put some meat on that skinny frame of yours.

I don't really plan on puting on weight or getting taller. I eat a ridiculous amount of food and don't gain weight. I woulda gotten longer but the only thing besides 169 was 179 and I didn't really want them that long because I ski 165 on my Carving skis (RX8's). I guess I'll prob. get them center mounted, even if powder is hard I don't really get much where I live so it should be good.

yea i think it helps a lot. although i dont know if i would go true center on a ski with a traditional sidecut/shape vs. symetrical. move it up but dont go quite true center.

Call me crazy, but I think center mounting a ski that isn't designed to be center mounted, doesn't always help the switch performance.
Of course it will always help when going switch in pow, by helping to keep the tails from digging in, but other than that, ski sidecuts are designed to be turned from a certain spot and deviating from that spot too much can cause things to react strangely.
If you mount true center on a ski with a "mount point" that is closer to the tail (most twins), then when going forward, you are in front of the ideal turning spot on the sidecut and the ski will tend to overturn and skid instead of carving. When going switch, you will be "behind" the ideal turning spot on the sidecut and the ski will not initiate as well into turns, and therefore won't switch carve as well as if you are in the suggested mount point.
Just a theory, I know that a lot of people disagree.

It's more of a mental thing for me. I could probably ride switch just the same without my skis mounted 3 inches foward from dead center, but then again, I have a light case of self-diagnosed OCD.

Ya I agree with you, are the fujas supposed to be dead center though. I think they are supposed to be slightly back because they are not a real twin like say the Addicts. On a second thought are the Addicts as flexy as the Fujas?

the "core" mount position is still about 1-1.5cm back from TRUE center. It is preference, but unfortunatley, you won't know your preference until you have something to base your preference on. I'd say just do the "core" position, you'll be fine.

remounting is a bad idea. I know of several people, two are friends, that have remounted their PE's only to have them break not long after doing so. If the shop has them, tell them to fill the old holes with wood plugs ( I know you can order aspen wood) the plastic ones suck.

I HATE PEs. The mounting plate is too far back to mount dead center or foward.

i agree with you... skis are all designed differently and depending on were you mount they will all ski differently.
core centre and true centre are different on the fuji cos' it's designed directionally ie. it's not symetrical.
were are they mounted right now? on the sidewall of the fujis there is a marking scale, it's from "core center" back to traditional (i think) and should give you a centimetre scale for inbetween. put your boot in the binding and look at where the boot centre (should be a little arrow) points to on the scale.
it's all preference but i'll be honest i don't think you'll notice the difference between core and true on the fuji when you're skiing backwards but those 1 - 1.5 cms might give you a bit going forwards.
also you'd have been chill on the 179 as long as you're a strong skier, weight isn't that important on most park skis similar to fujis (imo).
All times are Eastern (-5)
