Ok, well i was talking to my freind about ipods while skiing. he said that it works ok for a couple hours then it "freezes up" and says that the battery is dead, so he goes and heats it up inside and the batery goes back up. is this true? beacuse im thinking about getting an ipod and tuneups for my helmet so i can listen to music.
i dont know about the battery rising but i know that the cold does drain the battery quicker. i just put it in like a warm pocket like next to my pants pocket so it stays kinda warm, also put a heat warmer in it, it helps too
ive heard of alot of kids warming up their ipods by rubbing it or some thing like that. but im guessing having a heatwarmer with it is a good idea, just not so sure if it should be touching it..
yeah it will freeze up when cold but if you warm it back up it will usually start up again. i have a Ipod Shuffle and have never had any problems with it. so perfect for skiing! no screen to break, the battery will last about 3 FULL days of skiing and it is so light you dont even know its in your pocket
well yea, the shuffle is basicly a flash drive...thats why ou can plug it directly into the computer via usb. but the ipod mini and video have internal hard drives that have a "disc" in them that spin. so im guessing that the disc slows down and just starts to freeze up or just run really sluggishly.
Ipods will function less in cold, meaning the battery will die quicker. This is why you get like a goggle bag or get someone to knit a ipod bag too keep it insulated. If you have a recent one (color screen or newer) you should be legit.
how do you think the video's perform? i only have around 5gbs of music but ill prolly get a shitload more if i get an ipod just to have them. so im thinking about the 8gb mini. gives me enough room for more songs. and whats the best thing to insulate the ipod with? like a sock and a handwarmer in the same pocket.??
The video will die quicker like everyone said, and it will likely skip since theres a somewhat fragile hard drive in there. I used the video all last year but it would get messed up coming off of rails and jumps when you don't happen to land so nice. I'd go with the nano in hindsight. I don't have enough music to fill the 30g vid and don't use the vid feature enough.
tune ups will kill your battery quicker.
if it freezes hold menu and the select button for like 10 seconds and itll be fine.}
if you keep it close to your body like in a inner chest pocket, it will last all day. mine does.
my tuneups were shitty as hell i'm never gettin um again they got the least bit of wet and stopped working i mean they're made for skiing so shouldn't they be able to get a little wet
it wears the battery down cause the ipod has to send power to the switch, and the larger wattage speakers. I know it doesnt seem like much but it will kill it quicker.
I have a controler for my ipod too, and it works rad, but it kills the battery quicker too.
doesnt seem like it would, but it does.
yeah actually ipods are pieces of crap that are just built to piss you off. they seem awesome until it is around a year and the pos breaks and they try to fix it 3 freaking times and still doesnt work. IPOD IS NOT WORTH 300 BUCKS NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS!!!!!!!! WHITE VIDEOS 30 GIGS CAN KISS MY WHITE BUTT SCREW THEM
your my hero
my friend has a viedo and its pretty sick but it cost to much fer me to waste money on id rather buy a $20 1 gig mp3 player and not care if it breaks or not
and apple pays wat like $5 fer supplies to an 80gig video?
can u say rip off?
To many replies to read so sorry if someone already said this...A batteries charge (as anythings charge) slows down in the cold. To get all scientific on ya, the molecules are less excited in the snow causing them to seem to not last as long. Warming them up will excite the molecules again and it will work again. Any battery will do this if you leave your cell in the car or something it will do the same thing. just keep it warm and it should work fine.
