lame.
whos phil?? and its more of a fun project...with a winner. not a contest. i've been doing it for over a year now and love it. journal/thoughts/planning/sketching/etc. it has definitely helped me through my season.

^be prepared to get your ass kicked buddy.
so, here is an example of a journal entry:
i am up late, trying to come up with a design for a skateboard for Finseven. so i am sketching and making notes in the journal, websites i like, art i think would look good on a skate deck etc.
simple as that...don't need to make it harder than it is.
back at it!

Ummm... I'm just going to keep a journal like I would regardless of this contest, and just send it in in the end, instead of on my shelf. Cool? Cool. That way I dont have to feel bad when phil wins, and won't have to feel like I've spent alot of extra effort doing something for someone else.
It'll be good.
This is actually, the raddest idea I have EVER heard for a contest.

I would much rather be recognized and sponsored for my skiing and unique personality than a really cool "Write about your Day" contest.

then write about your skiing and uniqueness. Thats the thing about the contest is that you can do/write about whatever

hoho420 (cough, cough) send in a sponsor me tape to surface and skip the journal contest if you are a sick shred...but what if you are like me and not good enough of a skier to get "sponsored" ---then you are shit out of luck.
surface is thoughtful and kind enough to offer sponsorship to someone who can't ski as good as blake or becker...someone who has a big heart and brain full of thoughts.
this is a good chance for someone like me to get a free pair of skis, i can't ski for shit but i have a really nice collection of pens, crayons, dry erase, acrylic paint and spray paint.
shit.
goodnight, i am talking to myself again.

good thing you wrote, just kidding. i was about to get up and double check my stockpile of drawing goods. i thought you might've been onto something good for once.
ha, JUST KIDDING stowebum. blame your random pointless blurbs on the mono...
anyway, back to the topic on hand.
if you're not into the contest, then don't do it. we're just trying to bring in another creation medium for you guys to have fun with and express yourself through. there are a lot of guys who are trying to get somewhere with skiing and this is another chance for kid with a sharp brain to get his ish together and have some fun.

im going to do this. it seems interesting, iva always wanted to start to write daily, just freely express myself without anyone critizising it in anyway shape or form. This is giving me a reason to do so. So thanks surface, i sent my letter a week ago.

Just wanted to thank all of you who have sent in for the journal contest. This morning the mail lady had to come directly to the door and hand me a stack of envelopes because she could not fit anymore in the mail box. She was tripping out on all of the mail from Canada!! It's been super rad opening all the mail and reading all of the crazy shit...
I am on the way to the post office right now to get another box of journals sent out...so hang tight if you have not received yours yet.
Thanks again and keep 'em coming!

something came to mind about this contest a few days ago.
I think this is a really money idea and all, surface is using their imagination for sure, but i just wanted to say something to everyone entering the contest.
Make sure you're keeping a journal for the sake of keeping a journal. Let it be an oppurtunity to write down all your ideas and thoughts about things and also give you the chance to sketch and let your mind flow out onto the page.
The skis and the stuff will a by product of whatever you write or draw in your journal.
I just think it will be a lot more rewarding to enter it this way then trying to just enter it for the sake of the free skis.
just some thoughts.
big ups to surface on this idea though.
It got me writing

you can enter whenever you'd like. we want this to motivate you to write and express yourself, the prize shouldn't be the goal in mind.
enter whenever you want. have fun with it.
