pretty jumps

as a poser park tech for the past two year's i've learned to appreciate well built jumps. ever see a jump and just say 'wow - that's one beautiful jump'? i love watching snowboard video's half because they got such orginal and cool jumps (backcountry and park)... and they all look real cool. I think a lot of people take well built jumps for granted. everyone has their own idea's as to how gradual the transition for the take off should be, how kicky the take off should be, how steep the landing should be... and it's all done by eye work. it's just you and the groomer building a jump (or your shovel if you're in the backcountry) so you gotta have it in your head before you start doing anything.

anyone else enjoy just building pretty jumps and admiring jumps? building jumps is an art... and it's fun shit too.

ya for sure, you look at it and you know alot of time and effort have gone into it. it almost reflects your love for the sport, ya know you're putting all this care into the jump so you're experience is as good as it could possibly be

Haha, yeah. I like spotting the spot to build the jump and then laying the first few piles of snow. Like oncec at Edelweiss, this crappy shit hole we have here in the east, I just saw this little run off to the sidee that no one goes on. It was small and short and steep. So we decided to build a booter. It was fun but it was small as hell. Like more than a 180 would look ugly cuz it was too small. Very small indeed. Also, I love admiring jumps. mmmmm

i was actully just thinking of all the things that makes a video good/bad a few days ago and relised that the jump is sadly probley just as important as the trick in a video...

mammoth has pretty jumps.

I hate tables where the snow on the side is all messed up and crunchy like, it should be smooth so that I can ski down it when I chicken out.

i dont like building jumps... takers too much times, but i really apreciate nice builded jumps... normally we always get too lazy to build nice BC jumps but after a couple of crashes due to the way we builded it, we continue to build it until it gets really good

back in the day if you wanted to jump you had to go and build one, those were the days. trying to tuck one away on the side of a run so the patrol wouldnt see it and tear it down. building jumps is an art form that is lost on most people now because they just take them for granted. what really pisses me off is when people that really dont know what they are doing and try to 'fix' the lip on one

we stopped building jumps cuz it would just be me and my friend building everything the whole time,we would ask people to help and they said no they were too lazy and as soon as we were done building or setting up a rail theyd all come and hit it,so we gave up

I once spent 6 hours building a jump, and then I looked up and realized that the inrun sucked and I would never get enough speed. that 6 hours out of my life

lateralis - next time you build a jump you should put the foot down and tell them all 'if you don't build it - you don't hit it'. it's that simple. if they got a problem with it than they don't hit it. simple as that.

and the table in vivid is insanely big. I have no clue how they built that thing. like seriously - do you know how much cat time that would require? and how would they build the lip of that jump? 'cause takeoff's like that are usualy done with boards (talking big boards, not snowboards) - but I think it was too tall for someone to hold a board so I'm guessing they made a big mound and shapped it with shovels (hell of a lot of time to do that. defintily an impressive jump.

mike hunt; we dont mind that our friends hit it but when all the little kids do,we tell them to fuck off,we made it so you cant,heres a shovel,go build one yourself,then they go adn tell theyre parents since theyre all volunteers at the hill and we get shit for it,we actually built a 50 foot step down,i got to hit it once and my friend hit it once,we only straight aired to see for me speed and then some parents complained it was too big and we were gonna get hurt,we fucken told them its not their problem if we get hurt,you guys arent hitting it,its us so leave us the fuck alone,then the got the groomer to knock it down,we wasted all that time building it and only got to straight air it

first off, yeah, a well built jump is a beautiful thing. At my crappy resort on the east coast, they have no idea how to built a jump. The tables are always too long, the lips too steep, and gauging the speed is tough.
On a funny story note: Three winters ago in snowed about 8 inches(a ton for where i live). I had nothing to do that night so I went down to a school near my house and spent 4 hours building this sweet 5 ft kicker off a really steep hill. I come back early the next morning to find what: little kids on dinner trays annihilating it. It was a foot tall when I got there. Four hours, for no hits...

i saw some pics of a park (i think it was junes or mammoths) where they used the pipe cutter on the sides of the tables to make them smooth and neat. it was a beautiful thing..

cascade mountain, wisconsin. probably the worst built jumps on earth. its hard to get speed to them, there too short, and the landings are too steep. they also have rusty rails. what a crap hole.

Jackson builds some pretty damn good quality jumps, and they are pretty sexy looking. It helps having one of the co-founders of COC head of your park and pipe crew.
