in my opinion studying for the SATs doesnt do very much. its what you know and a little be of studying isnt going to increase your score drastically. but hey, you may be the kind of person who benifits. i didnt take a class or use a book and i did fine the first time and i dont plan on doing anything before i take them again.

At my school we had a class that went over how to take the SAT's....unfortunately I took it after I took that test. Studying won't do you much good unless you go over test taking skills, not general knowledge. It's not too bad of a test, it's just really long and incredibly tedious.

Dude take the ACT, it is much more practical and most of the school in the mkidwest/west coast don't take the SAT results.

i took an SAT class and my score improved by 80, so not much of a difference, but at least look over one test by yourself

Def get a study guide of sorts, and be ready for standerized testing time a million. Shit gets sooo boring and repetitive but you cant just fillin in random shit like standerized test because it actually counts.

The sat's suck so much. Def. get a practice book. The sat's aren't about what you know, its just how well you can take the test, so get some practice tests. but that test so much. it is so long.

SAT I is the reasoning test which includes three sections each worth 800 points. The sections are Math, Critical Reading, and the newly added Writing section that includes an essay portion and a few multiple choice questions. The writing section was previously an SAT II test. In total the SAT I is out of 2400 points. The SAT IIs are the subject tests and are based entirely on the subject you wish to take it on such as a foreign language, higher math, literature, history, and science. Each SAT II is out of 800 points. Most good colleges reccomend or require that you take at least two SAT II subject tests as well as the SAT I. I have not yet taken the SAT IIs but from what I have heard they are far less strenuous then the SAT I. The SAT I is a bitch. I hope that answered your question somewhat.

yeah, thanks! I've been living across the pond for my whole life so i have no clue about the SATs. Ivy league schools want 3 SAT IIs and the SAT I, and other colleges want 2 SAT IIs and SATI...

Try between 3 1/2 to 4 hours. As far as your original question, do not spend money on the expensive Kaplan tutoring unless you feel you really need it. All I did was buy a Kaplan book with 8 practice tests in it for 30 dollars. I took 3 practice tests the day before the actual tested and ended up with a 2000. You may not want to leave it as last minute as I did but you should still consider the cheaper altenative of the book over the tutoring. The SAT I is basically about your test taking skills, its not really something you can study for like a school test.
