Welcome to the live chat with Jason Levinthal from Line Skis. As you know, Line was recently acquired by K2 Sports and J will be answering your questions from 10:00pm until he gets sleepy. Jason posts under the name Snowninja and will get to as many posts as possible. I'll be moderating for anything repetitive and will be posting a recap of the discussion in the News.
So post your questions and let's make this happen.

JLEV: how do you foresee growth in the freeski industry? Is it maxed out? Furthermore, how has the presence of a plethora of new ski companies in the marketplace affected your business? In other words, is the pie itself still getting bigger, or are everyone's slices getting smaller and smaller?

My all-important question: will you hire me? The K2 HR people won't call me back.

Im not all anti corporation-y or anything here, but do you ever find it hard to lie through your teeth like that?
I cant remember talking to a single salomon/vokl/k2/rossi rep who understands where the sport is going, and supports it for any reason other than taking a chunk of the niche for what its worth. I have had no issue with Line taking up with K2 and i see tons of good potential in it, but im discouraged by your show of dishonesty here.

eep, just to clear that up - when i was talking about supporting the sport for any other reason that taking a chunk of the niche i was talking about those directing the companies, not the reps themselves. The representatives are out there doing the work for them, but they are in it often times for love of the sport and to make a living from it.
That said i stand by my comments about thier understanding of the sports direction, and especially those concerning the people directing said companies. I brought up the reps simply because they are the skiers only connection to the crazy heirchy running skiing right now haha.
Anyone want to re post that heirchy by the way? I remember a tree style chart that listed who was owned by who.

corporate and the reps are two totally different things. people in corporate most likely dont even know a single rep. also, in most cases, reps do not work for the actual company they represent, they work for agencies who supply them with companies to rep.

J i know your not online any more but incase you come back later, thanks man. No just for this thread and answering questions but for every thing you and line have done for the sport. Your skis were my first twin tips way back in the day, and i still measure all of my skis to how those ones rode. I understand why you sold to K2 and i think it was the right move, keep pushing the envelope
thanks again man, for everything

What planet do you live on? People in corporate don't know reps? Dude, it is a ski company, not Coca-Cola, ha! Reps in effect are independent contractors for companies, not in all cases, but most. Salomon for instance has an staff that works as employees of the brand. Agencies??? Not following that one. Reps usually get jobs because they know people and love what they do and are good at it, not becuase some agency offered it up. Are you thinking of office temps? Haha.

Jason,
First of all let me say that I am a staunch supporter of Line and the mission that you guys are on. My first twin-tips were Lines, you guys have a special place in my heart.
Does more financial backing mean that you could get some of your old pro guys back? There would be no measure to how cool it would be to see Mike Wilson with some Chronics on his feet again.
You are the man. Peaaaaace.

Since you obviously haven't paid attention to anything going on... nobody rides them any more, they are no longer being made.

the ultimate question, is where j lev will choose to ski in Washington, you know he will make the occasional trip up to baker for some sick powder, but will he be riding park at snowqualmie, or be ambitious and go to stevens, possibly giving that lazy park crew a swift kick in the ass, and living up to the potential that the area has ALL SEASON LONG!!! (hint if any of you are looking, it was good end of the season, but it should be good ALL season). well J, any thoughts on this important topic?

No one knows where the sport is going. K2 have a pretty sick idea of the direction though: K2 Mini Golf was one of the most "progressive" comps there's been.
