My boyfriend and I are thinking of moving to Tahoe year round. Is it easy to find work in tahoe(north or south lake)? I am a personal trainer and yoga teacher, he is a film editor. How is the cost of living? Are you working your ass off just to pay you rent/bills or is it pretty easy to make a living? For all you 30 something year olds(are there any others on this site?) how is general lifestyle, do you enjoy it??

not that it helps. I find if you look hard enough you can find a job that suites you, I knwo a guy who lives in incline who teaches yoga privatly and makes bank. If you look on craigslist you can find a few houses or rooms or whatev for somewhat cheap, i like northshore but im boring and do go to casinos or bars and i like the fewer people.JUst go spend a week and check it out on both sides and incline is 40 minutes or less from reno if you cant find jobs in tahoe.

if i were you i would'nt move to southshore, too crowded. go northshore..its nice there unless you want to be close to all of the bars and casinos.

just do some research via the interweb on Reno and Truckee. Sounds like the both of you could find descent jobs in those areas with your skills. Rent in Reno is $300-500 and in Truckee $450 and up. I live in Truckee in a fairly modern house(3 bdrm) and our heat/gas bill is around $150/month, electric/water bill is about $100 a month. You jus have to decide how much you want to live in the mountains as any money you save by living in Reno would get burned up in gas making the 40 mile commute each day. Oh..groceries in Tahoe are outragous!! It's not comfirmed but the Truckee safeway is supposed to have the highest profit margin of the whole company. I believe it. I went the other day to get lunch supplies and spent $50 on bread, PB&J, tuna, mayo, hamburger, gaterade. For the same I can go to reno and get a weeks worth of everything at Trader Joe's and WinCo plus save .20 a gallon on gas down there.

Hey, what kind of film editing? real film or digital. I have an opening for a digital editor at Boreal. We have the editing suite(all up to date Adode Pro software) however the right canidate would have to come with their own 3chip camera. The job would entail shooting from a weekly shot list and putting together weekly web videos and podcasts. a vast majority of the work would be youth action sports related(park/pipe) and there would be some opportunity to go and shoot at Alpine Meadows as well. Any down time from filming/editing would be spent working in the park.

add to what they said, your biggest expenses will be gas, food and most of all heating in the winter. they rape you on natural gas charges, so if possible try and heat with a wood stove. my gas bill for a month in a small 2/1 house was about 180.

Thanks for all the info!! We currently pay $1500 a month for 2 bdrm in NYC so if we would make a decent living and pay only $900 a month for 2 bdrm I would be very happy. We are both looking to get out of NYC and live somewhere that we can ride regularly instead of driving 3 hrs to get to the smallest mtn in upstate ny. What do you all do in the summer and off season?

I'm willing to bet that Tahoe is cheaper than NYC. Find a place out here and make the move.

apts yeah, I thought you meant house. Houseing is much cheaper now then in a few months, so I would try and get a place as soon as possible.
