who has influenced you the most in skiing, and who do u think have influenced the sport the most... for me, schiller has influenced me, the sport i'd have to say tanner or douglas
Pollard was my first favorite, he got me out of skiboarding and into skiing again in 7th grade, haha, but then I discovered Mik D. Dumont got me wearing du-rags too.
For the sport overall, I'd say that Moseley got a bunch of skiers into the park, and once they were there they saw, JP, JF, Vinne, Douglas, all those guys who got things going. THall has pushed us into a new era, though, with Pollard & Pep in the BC.
tanner has had the most influence on the industry since douglas and szocs. he has also started every trend in the past 5 years. so yeah, tanner. however, for me it started out as dash cuz he skied at squaw and i would always see him. he got me way into the whole style thing. and now i don't really have an influence.. i just progress as fast as i can and my style is kinda unique i guess.
when i first got into the newschool scene, i loved the LINE team, the pros were so good in my opinion, so i would say Skogen, Pollard and Mike Nick though i dont see much of Skogen and Nick anymore, or Vinne and JF Cusson
It was my friend who was the only park skier at my mountain for a few years way back when. He influenced me to get into freeskiing but it's sad because he quit. :(
i disagree/ no doubt tanner has been the best comp skier in this period, but in terms of pioneering style, he doesn't come close to candide (made the true tail inimitable), jon (effortless steeze, particularly grabbing) and pollard ffs. redefined bc steeze.
overall, it has been candide that's been responsible for the most groundbreaking progression:
1. Age 16- 1st to stomp chads, then Dspin 7s it
2 2001 X pipe- the most definitive pipe run ever
3 world record quarterpipe hit (flair mute 45 ft La Clusaz)
4 world record 24.5 ft tree jib (war)
5 candide invite continues to assault the limits of the possible.
Trust me, in europe at least, Candide is a much bigger deal than thall in NAmerica. Some argue that his signing for rossi is what made quiksilver buy them....
