dude...don't even try to ask questions, they don't give answers. they don't have any. that's what faith is, believing in something no matter what the facts presented by the scientific populace are, faith in religions is nothing but blind, nothing wrong with that I suppose, but that's what faith is, believing in something no matter what. I nbel;eive i just repeated myself like 8 times
"Have you ever heard of occam's razor?
It states that all things held equal the simplest solutions is the correct solution. So whats more logical an all powerfull any mysterious beign created the earth then left no evidence of his existence. Or that he never existed at all?"
"Well I wouldent want to live in a world where god didnt exist."
"What if science simply proved that god never existed."
"Did you love your father?"
"Yes"
"Prove it..."
From the movie Contact.
I thought that pretty much sums up my views on god. lately I have been thinking a lot about death and I never was very religious, infact I thought that organized religion was a scam. But the thought of dieing and becoming nothing scares me deeply. If science is 100% right then at death we simply shut down and end and that is what scares me. So the only way to live on is make an impact on the people you interact with on a daily basis. This is the basis of both the bible and other religious books such as the Koran. However these religions never follow their own teachings look at what is happening in the muslum world over a cartoon.
So to sum up
1. Organized religion, religious fundlementalism, and blind following of religious leaders and ideas is in my opinion are very foolish and leads to the downfall of people and cultures.
2. Believing in something and being good to your fellow human and creatures on this earth is good.
3. The muslim world is fubar and so is our own christian fundlementilist goverment.
Here is what I believe: There is no god, there is no messiah, there are no prophets plugged in to some divine will. There are no saints or holy men. If there is a heaven or a hell or any other kind of afterlife, we can’t know anything about it while we’re in this life, so it’s useless to speculate and foolish to believe. Faith is an empty box. To believe in Christ is to believe in a rabbit’s foot. To believe in the Buddha is to believe that pro wrestling is real. To believe in Mohammed is to believe that the groundhog can predict spring. To believe that the Ten Commandments came from some god on a mountaintop is to believe that television psychics can talk to your dead grandmother. Allah, Jehovah and the Trinity are elves and Tinkerbells. They are no more than desperate hope given a name and anthropomorphic shape by the imaginations of frightened men.
You dont have to believe in the people but I think it is good to believe in something. How about believing in human emotion. Everyone is much happier when people are good to each other. Nuff said.
Do you feel like being an attention whore? Is that why you reposted your original statement over again? I seriously hope that you feel clever. Why do you feel the need to negate everything in this life that is unexplainable and larger than yourself? Have you honestly never had an encounter with something that is beyond science and reason? If so I really feel bad for you.
I thought it had a place in both forums. I honestly have never felt a connection with god or allah or whatever. Sure a kid I believed in santa and stuff and I didn't know any better.
I think that believing in higher power is the same as thinking you have less a chance of getting a girl pregnant if you have sex standing up.
Religous people jump from false diety to holy spirt to jesus to god to peter pan and captain hook all on one simple premise.... Faith.
What kind of bullshit is that? No reasoning or arguement for these very vague ideas? Its complete malarky.
To think that you will be saved and sent to heaven because you attened church and were faithful to the allmighty is the same reasoning put into the guy who wears his underpants inside out at the casino. No matter what happens wheither win or lose, the only thing he is doing is playing a game.
i dont really believe in god or science, they both suck, id rather make up my own mind on stuff. but if i had to choose either religion or science id choose religion, cause its more interesting and science is for people with no imagination.
you're right, believing in one thing may be like believing in foolishness. But doesn't spirituality try to approach life, living for yourself or for others. I'll admit I am ignorant about a ton of religions, but one that strives to live for others at all costs seems like a good way to live, whether or not it is right. I'm not saying I'm an example of this either but I will try.
I absolutely believe in God. Think about Pascal's wager: You can believe in God, find out he exists after, and live eternally in infinite happiness and joy, OR you can believe in God, find out he doesn't exist, and it's no huge loss to you, now is it?
Isn't god supposed to love us all unconditionally? So if I happen to beleive he doesn't exitst but he really does, he would still let into heaven because he understands and beleives that we are all entitled to our own beleifs. Therefore nobody loses.
i think of it this way:
most people think of god as the creator of all things, right. so if there was someone or something that created all things, what created it/him/her? it is a cycle with no explainable beginning. i also choose to not worship a god, because i feel that if someone/thing created me, it/him/her would not want me to spend a fair chunk of my life worshipping it/him/her. that isnt what i would have been created for. there is no proof that says a god exists, and there is no proof that says a god doesnt exist. science and people that worship god are always going to disagree, and that is how it is. im not denying that there is a god, and im not trying to proove there isnt one. i am a neutral party simply explaining the two sides, and i am going to sit on the fence on this one.
I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say but, The adaptation of sight is a classic example of evolution. I included it in my conceptual foundations of medicine thesis.
And yes the function of the eye can get more basic than it is now. Now, you are looking at the eye as a whole body. Inside the back of the eye, are millions of light sensitive cells. These cells collectively interact to form the complex image of what you see in your brain. The way the eye is thought to have come about is that millions of years ago, a few organisms sligtly mutated, and developed cells that were more sensitive to light than others. These cells didn't allow the organisms to "see" but they allowed them to react to differences in light. (ex. Bright/ Dark).
Now based on the way natural selection works, the few organisms that have this adaptation with the light sensitive cells will be able to live longer and reproduce more often. The result is more genes encoded for light sensitive cells will be present in the population of the organism. The ones with out the light sesitive cells will begin to die off.
Now that is only the first stage in the development of the eye. I mean to go from these light sensitive cells to the eye is very complex. But thats what happens during evolution. The series of slight modifications over the course of millions of years. Aside from natural selection, Darwin used the concept of "Descent with Modification". This is what determined how natural selection operates.
