urban is great....and provides so many unbelievable ways to progress our sport...but not everyone has great access to it.

urban requires people to have rails near them, a way to get to them, a way to set up for them, and the ability to do them... I agree with Gaz, not everyone does have acess to urban.

but i would say way more people have access to handrails than they do a ski resort. think how many more rails there are in towns or cities than ski resorts....

I can agree with that, but it's the preparing that goes into it that keeps people away... that's how I see it at least. That and it's very risky.

its quite possible to not have access to urban. what if you don't have prime rails in your area? what if you live in a complete rural area? what if you don't have a car? no lights? no start ramps? no snow? no friends who enjoy to slide handrails? who is gonna slide a rail by themeselves? what about is you don't have a pair of skis to completely destroy?

are you kidding? west coast kids have acces to rediculously better parks than east coasters...they do not have access to them unless they fly out...not because "the setup of a sick park" keeps them away from them
everyone has access to rails...you think all the urbans people did have been easy? no they are just more motivated than people who didnt do them. end of story.

"Ian Cosco, just no, hes a Pro for one of the biggest ski companies in the industry right now"
i totally dont agree wiht you, being on the nithward prop team is defenitely not the same as being on the dynastar pro team for exmaple. Not saying there not as good because they defenitely are, but its a new compagny with "NEW" riders. Probably no one here can 3 here people on their pro team other than mickeal. hes is on a pro team of a compagny where everyrider is reletively unknown. so being on the nithward team doesnt make his known at all. that is why he sent in to superUNknown... because if his name was tanner hall he wouldnt of.

Alright, so, I hate to really argue a ton about this, but while the snow in the west is definitly way better, the parks around here are not that far behind, at all.
As for urban, I said that it was hard, and yes, people with more skills will be able to do more urban, HOWEVER, there are still many places where there simply isn't any urban. Maybe it's hard for you to believe being from such a built up area (not saying you are, but others), but I know plenty of places I've been in New England where there definitily isn't a handrail for miles.

yo melvs im sorry but i have to agree with everybody else on the whole urban thing. yeah clarke had some decently cool urban in his segment, and im sure with more work he could kill it for sure on them. but just with lil john alone, we have driven hours just to go hit single urban rails, fuck if had to drop a few hundred $$'s on just speeding tickets getting to these. the excuses you brough up just dont really hold up that well. yeah lil john lives in burlington, but you know how many of those rails were well over 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours just one way away from him? rails are probably the easiest thing to setup for. go watch those kidsnow movies and see how many urban shit they do, its because is waaaaayyy more convenient than going all over the rest of the place. if im right clarke was in park city, he went to breck too right? and traveled a sure enough, you cant fly by the argument of there were no rails around....i mean park city dude...come on. this is for sure not to bash his riding at all, hes sick for sure. im just trying to point out the fact that what you say about how doing urban is hard...which it definately isnt if you put in the slighest of work.

Everyone has access to urban weither it be a drop, gap, rail, wallride, like anything. Urban isnt just a perfect quad kink handrail. Unless you live right on a ski resort, im positive you have better access to urban then parks.

my bad i misread. have you been to mammoth, breck, or pc etc. their jumps are like comparing the majors with the minors. where do all the crazy park designers go? certainly not here.

rode northstar, alpine, and sierra 2 months ago. I would say that the west may be a bit ahead, but not as far as you'd like to think.

I can see your points, but I still think it's easier for someone to go to a mountain and ski what is set up, then do urban.
I'm not trying to pass this off for an argument for or against any of the kids in superunknown, I'm just saying, for me personally, it's easier for me to drive that hour to one of the mountains than spend an hour setting up for urban.

unless you were in a poorboyz, msp, plehouse, or level 1 video, it's totally legit for you to enter superunknown.
ahmet and lil john and some of the other guys that entere are big names on this site, but that's not the same as winning a major part in a video like berman's.

what do you know about urabn anyway you sick bastard ???
REcover fast dude, I wanna have the chance to ski with you at one point.
Anyway, urabn is accessible but at the same time, it takes so much more commiittment, you can go to a rail 10 times in one year and not being able t hit it nce.
Getting shots in a park is a lot easier but you can have decent urban in no time if you work hard, I think I got like 8 different tricks on different rail in 4 dayz of shooting urban this year. but yea, everything was super organised. Urban is ahrder but when your doing it the rigth way, it's totaslly worth it. I think it should al come down to the guy using the smallest jumps onto urban tech rails but that's just me and my urban etiquette lol

so i liek this urban discussion.....on one hand, urban is much mroe difficult, not necessarily due to skiing ability, but to having a truck for snow, having a drop in that will get you enough speed, having urban skis, having lights, having the ability to be stealthy, and for this, having a filmer.
in park, its a lot easier to jsut shoot allday and get 3 mintues of solid footage, where as urban you can get like 3 rails in 1 day if you work at it. but i do think that people with shittier parks are mroe stoked on urban, because tis way better for them, i ride at PC so i lvoe riding a sick park...of course ppl who live near shitty parks are gonna do urban, its jsut that much better then there park

yes anyone can do urban, but it takes more dedication, not to many people have perfect rails next to they're house... so many things go into urban... and when everything is going good (weather, filmer, friends, transportation, runup etc), you still have to worry about getting kicked out..which ruins a perfectly good day.

I agree. there are many factors that come into play when you wanna hit urban. snow is the biggest factor. out here on the east coast, we dont have so much. suuuch a shitty winter.

you really dont need that much snow though...like one trash can full can get you all the snow you ever wished you needed

you need decent snowfall to hit urban in most cases. you cant just use a trashcan and stuff. usually takes too much time to set up. with alot of snwo you get in maybe 4 hits before you get kicked out in some cases.
