If you do a ratio like this (Gore's IQ/SAT score) = (Bush's IQ/SAT score) you can find a proportional IQ score (because Bush has never taken one, and Gore has. And that IQ for Bush is actually equivalent to what Kennedy was tested at. I made that post LONG ass time ago with the actual numbers. If anyone doubts it I will go find it *shudder*.

Just because Rome fell doesn't mean the USA will fall, you have to look at the reasons Rome fell. Essentially it was the inability of the nation states to unify under a single body to fight off invaders. Rome fell because it was a decentralized body who also had an inability to gain any allegiance from its conquered terrotories, and if not allegiance, wasn't able to control the disruptions effectively the lack of allegiance and control caused.

Ok Gore had an SAT score of 1355, and tested an IQ of 135. Bush scored a 1206 on the SAT (didn't realize they stopped assigning scores that weren't factors of 5 anyway...). Therefore doing that ratio, you get a Bush IQ of 119. And this is what Kennedy tested at. If you read on the internet about Bush having an IQ of 91, that's bullshit. It's an internet hoax, and it's been acknowledged by the major presses that it is purely an internet hoax. President bush's IQ score is actually in the 16th percentile of college students. Look at the last time America came close to falling. I guess you can say the great depression was an instance like this. But when something like the American economy failed, so did a lot of the western world's. Now anyone who's had a good history course knows that the reason for the Great Depression wasn't just the stockmarket crash. But this didn't keep America from being back to what it was for very long. So history has also shown that an economic disaster isn't going to 'take down' America. America is going to have to be physically ravaged, just like Rome was. But a physical ravaging means an economic ravaging, and there are lot of nations that don't want that to happen besides us.

The U.S.'s military wasn't shit in the depression compared to now. That's the one imediate clause against colapse that America has. The other is the citizens' apathy and loyality. From what (little) I've seen of Americans' opinion of their goverment compared to Canadians' is dangerously loyal. It would seem that most Americans regard their goverment with the same addoration that young kids have for sports stars. On the other hand, here in Canada, thanks to Trudeau's support of our deviant views in the 70s, most Canadian view the goverment as a group of baffons. The follies of our goverment is exploited on a national, goverment subsidised media corporation, the CBC. Thus it would seem that lower and middle-lower class Americans see little of the goverment's follies. From this, and the 3rd Reich like organized visual presence of the American Federal Goverment forges an awe at their ''pure'' and wholesome American values, creating dangerously loyal support for the goverment actions. While The U.S. goverment does not ban or censor truthful and enlightening information, it would appear they do need to as evident by most American's (and Canadians and European, and rich, white people the world over) apathy for the strugles of the world's impoverished.

Tim! There you go, demonstrating your particular brand of 'un-knowledge'. Bush is NOT the most powerful person in goverment. There are checks and balances to keep that from happening. The three branches of the American government each check each other to make sure that none get more powerful than the other. Whatever Bush wants has to be approved by Congress, and the Judicial branch has to see that the laws are carried out correctly. Bush is just one part of the executive branch, which includes his Cabinet and other minor officials.

We learn this stuff in 5th grade over here. It's simple.

but when the 3 branches all gain from exercising the same policies, the people that would normally carry out the 'checks and balances' you speak of become less inclined to fullfil their duty.

Actually you know what Tim, Andy's right; Bush doesn't have that much power. He can't create his own laws (like in Canada).

Here's how it is (by my understanding):

U.S.A. : Three sepperate branches of goverment (White House, Congress and the Senate) in a system designed (from the begining) to take power from the president. Each branch must approve of a bill before it is passed. And unlike in Canada, the President has no power in Congress.

Canada: The Prime Minister controls his cabinent which is ALWAYS the largest group in the parliment (you know how it works Tim). If the party in power has a majority goverment, then the leader of this party controls the majority of the parliment, the sole holder of power in the goverment, able to pass laws. I assume it is the same in Austrialia and New Zealand.

So, the Prime Minister holds more power in his country than the President in his. However, because the U.S.A. is nine times larger population-wise than Canada, about thirteen-and-a-half times richer, and in power of a military 50 times larger than Canada's. And while George W. Bush may not have as much power as we like to belive, there are others, many others, with similarly objectionable views and goals who are in power. Just a little clarifaction.

I can see where tim is coming from. Bush isn't the most powerful man in the government but he certainly gets the most exposure. The thing that pisses me off the most is that Bush isn't listening to the rest of America and the majority of us belive that a war is unnecassary. I think it is about oil and is a personal matter between him and saddam and Bush Sr. Bush Sr. was just too pussy to kill him when we invaded the first time so now Bush feels that it is his job to finish it off regardless of what his country thinks.

Andy, Bush is the most powerful person in the world, which makes him, by default, the most powerful person in the U.S. government. He's the president of the country that runs most of the world. And yes there is a system of checks and balances, but it doesn't quite work as well when you have a conservative supreme court and a fully republican congress. But that's the way it is now and we have to make do for another 2 years.

You're forgetting a simple fact of economics. The goverment can only do so much to affect the economy. They found out how damaging it was when the gov't gets involved when they tried to impose price floors and ceilings on things like rent and gas.....they fucked things up bigtime. The real driving force on the economy is the Federal Reserve and how they manipulate the money supply, interest rates, etc. The reason the economy was so good was a result of the Fed's actions and not those of the Clinton Administration. So don't think that Bush fucked things up. The Fed has run things really well for a long time now. Most of the bad shit right now is a result of 9/11/01. And that shit is due to factors the Fed had to react to rather than prepare for.
For the record I think Bush is a fucking idiot and I am definitely not a conservative. But before you go thinking Gore would be better..think about this. And this especially goes to those of you who don't like the cops always fucking with people and think the system sucks. Gore and the rest of the democratic side may seem like they want to do all these things to help everyone. But the fact is that these things will result in a bigger gov't, which means more rules and more people gettin messed with and fucked by the system. Blood Alcohol limits are lower...low enough that you can get a DUI when you feel nothing. The US wanting Canada to make the drinking age 21 for visiting Americans. Hell I tried to fight an expired tabs ticket that I got in my friends car and got screwed. I subpeonad both officers and only one showed. But the court said that was ok and I could continue or reschedule for a date when the officer could be present. But you and I can't get out of a subpeona and they're supposed to dismiss any cases where the cops don't show for court. So if any of you think that kind of shit is cool...vote for people who will make you feel good and give you something right here, right now, and fuck you 10 years down the road. Don't believe the hype.

Andy, you're being foolish. Of course there are freakin' checks on the government and it's leaders, I never said there wasn't, no one did say that. If there wasn't checks in place then the leader could do whatever the hell he wanted. But the president still does have the final say. And don't try tell me he doesn't, the political leader or 'president' still decides to pass laws on to the Governer General or Congress, it still all goes through him, or else he wouldn't be there would he, maybe you should go back and check out 5th grade again.

The president does not have 'final say' the only thing he can do is Veto a bill, which Congress can easily overturn. The only possible thing he can do is influence his party. And we know that most of the time, the opposing party wants NOTHING to do with what Bush wants, so that leaves almost half of Congress which doesnt want a bill passed. All it takes is a few independants or Republicans to switch sides, and Bush has no power.

And As far as I know, there is no position of 'Governer General' in the US Congress.

With Washington massing troops and equipment in the Gulf and Iraq declaring itself mobilised for battle, thousands of demonstrators in the United States, Britain, Japan, France, Syria, Russia, Italy, Yemen, Ireland, Cyprus and Pakistan took to the streets to say 'no' to war.

'There's been too much capital invested in this war for it not to happen. But we're making our position clear, we're saying 'no'. There are people speaking out on this all over the world now, and we're part of it,' said Adam Conway, 24, an activist living at a peace camp near Shannon Airport in Ireland.

US President George W Bush has said he will lead a 'coalition of the willing' to force Iraq to give up its alleged weapons of mass destruction if Baghdad does not co-operate with UN arms inspectors.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell told a German daily that Washington believed by the end of January there would be 'a persuasive case' Iraq was not cooperating.

The White House has also seized on the discovery of empty chemical warheads in Iraq as evidence of noncompliance, calling the weapons cache 'serious and troubling', though UN weapons chief Hans Blix played down the significance of the find.

Pleading for the White House to back down and let inspections run their course, tens of thousands of people were expected to protest in Washington and San Francisco on Saturday in the largest anti-war demonstrations since Bush began making a case against Iraq last year.

'Bush has said that he intends to launch a pre-emptive war, and now he's facing the most formidable obstacle, which is a pre-emptive anti-war movement,' said Washington lawyer Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, who is helping to organise the protests.

UN arms experts pushed ahead with their intensified search for banned weapons in Iraq on Saturday, inspecting mobile laboratories, state companies and colleges.

Blix and International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Mohamed ElBaradei are due in Baghdad on Sunday for two days of talks aimed at averting war.

The weapons chiefs, who were due to arrive in Cyprus on Saturday before heading for Iraq, have said Iraq has opened doors to inspectors but has not been 'proactive' enough.

They have also said gaps exist in Iraq's 12,000-page weapons declaration submitted to the United Nations in December.

'There is not yet confidence, there is not yet certainty that all the chemical and biological weapons and missiles are gone and that all the equipment is gone. And it is above all for Iraq to demonstrate that everything has been done away with,' Blix said in Paris on Friday.

ElBaradei added: 'That is the clear message we are sending to Baghdad next week. Co-operate and there is a positive outcome for you, and if you do not, unfortunately the consequences will not be very pleasant.'

On January 27, Blix and ElBaradei are due to deliver a key report to the UN Security Council on what inspectors have found since returning to Iraq in November after a four-year absence.

The United States has called that 'an important date' and while maintaining no decision has been made to go to war Washington has also said it would not need a second UN resolution to authorise war with Iraq if it is found to be in material breach of UN Resolution 1441, which cleared the way for the return of inspectors.

With the clock ticking on a possible war with Iraq, those opposed to an attack have mobilised with a new sense of urgency.

In Britain, Washington's staunchest ally against Iraq, demonstrations were planned in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Nottingham.

Egyptian demonstrators planned a second day of protests in Cairo calling on their government to prevent US and British warships from using the Suez Canal.

Thousands of Japanese gathered in central Tokyo to protest a possible war in Iraq and in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi, a few thousand people formed a human chain to condemn any US-led attack.

In France, where President Jacques Chirac said a unilateral attack by Washington on Iraq would violate international law, left-wing parties, trade unions and peace groups planned to hold demonstrations in Paris and several provincial cities.

And in Cyprus, anti-war demonstrators were gathering signatures.

'We believe a war will take place. The UN inspectors are Bush and (British Prime Minister Tony) Blair's fig leaf for an attack and let's not kid ourselves, their main interests are Iraq's oil reserves,' Phaedonas Vassiliades said.

Tim was making the link between the heads of states of your countries(him having a govenor general, you having a president). Being the president he is also commander in chief of Americas armed forces, hence him being world's most powerfull man. Yes there are checks and balances, and no systems are perfect, but with a clean sweep in his house it's much easier to pass conservative bills. And with Bush acting as a 'moderate' i doubt any in his party will find his bills too radical to disagree with.

C_lo, you're right that degrees don't breed intelligence. But intelligence is not indicative of being educated. Someone can have a lot of raw thinking ability, but they haven't been exposed to information that is critical for knowledge on a particular topic. And this is what makes Fat Mike not as much of an expert as a historian, or political scientist. Citing Fat Mike, in my opinion, is just like citing any person on this board or your parents, but trying to put them on this pedastol as an expert is just not very smart, seriously.
