Replying to Liberty HQ Update
Update from Liberty HQ, January 5, 2006. Edwards, CO:
Today I headed into the shop to check out how things were going after the crazy Christmas time. I walked in to find the SB's no longer stacked on the floor, but all shipped out and the whole front part of the office looking almost organized!
I headed back into the shop part to find stacks of clear topsheet skis, all labeled with their materials, flex, sidecut, length, and other specs. Each pair is unique in construction, using different materials in different places, as well as completely different constructions and flex patterns. All of these skis are being tested to find the perfect blend of materials, flex, sidecut, length, width's, camber, wow this list goes on forever.
I also spotted a few pair of the SIA samples of new gear for next season. Top secret until Vegas, but after that we'll get you a sneak peek at some of the skis.
What I can tell you,
The flex pattern has been adjusted to soften the ski a bit for better low speed control and agility, the camber has been adjusted for more specific park riding and new materials allow for a solid platform with even flex throughout the ski.
Liberty is sponsoring a jib jam in Steamboat, CO next week, Friday, January 13. Steamboat native Charlie MacArthur, David Lesh, and I will be there along with a number of sick locals jibbers. I'll try to post some pictures and maybe a video afterwards.
Liberty Pro rider David Bird is out for 8-10 weeks due to a broken femur. Bird was jumping off a water tower in Vail last week throwing some nasty cork spins before he came up short and landed on a fencepost hidden beneath the snow. Bird was rushed in to emergency sugery to repair the broken bone with an internal rod, two pins to hold the rod in place, and a bold to keep his femur and hip joint happy with each other.
Bird is in good spirits and already crutching around and using minimal pain medication to maximize his healing process. Doctors say it could be as early as 8 weeks for Bird to ski again, 10 weeks he should be able to start jibbing around a bit.
US Open is approaching, if anybody still needs a place to stay, send me and email and we will try to work somting out for you. Anybody that wants to compete and missed the online registration, dont worry too much. Many riders get hurt or dont show up in time and spots open. Last year about 20 people off the waiting list got into the contest so there is that chance.
SIA Trade Show is the week following the US Open in Las Vegas. We will be heading out with full trucks of skis, swag, tents, stickers, and anything else Liberty to show the world all the new gear. Check Freeskier.com, they usually do a pretty good recap of the event with photos. The SIA is the biggest trade show of the year and we will be hitting it hard with a super sick booth, a big crew, and of course all the new gear to get people pumped!
Hope you all had a good holiday season with lots of snow (it is still snowing in Colorado!).
I'm off to sleep. Peace!
