Replying to Karma follow-up...
Alright, had a chance to take my Karmas out into better conditions today. On the menu at Schweitzer was fluffy powder in the glades, melting heavy cement powder on the runs, tons of crud, and some groomers.
I didn't go into the park at all today just because the all-mountain skiing was pretty decent.
The Karmas were a lot of fun. They float really well, I'm finally starting to get the hang of skiing switch, but with my helmet and goggles my peripheral vision is for shit so I'm going down mostly blind which is unnerving. They're not center mounted so that's making my life a little difficult, but they're very stable going fakie.
They cut through the crud well, but are a bit of a handful for me to maneuver in the really heavy snow due to their length and width. 99% of the time the 177 is what I need, but on some runs today a 169 would have made kicking around in the crap a lot easier.
I'm working on spins and grabs on small kickers... I'm not comfortable enough with the big air park jumps (the landings are HARD), but back country rollers and lips were lots of fun. The swing weight of the Karmas is a bit much at times. They're not super light in the tip and tail like a lot of park skis.
Anyway... they're great skis. I love em :) I'm still going to try and pick up a set of old Salomon 1080's or 720's in a 170 or so to dick around on and improve my air portfolio before stepping up big to the Karmas for everything.
