Replying to What if...?
Yeah so I was lying bed last night, havin' a think while Cyclone Zoe blew overhead. You know the one that devastated the islands in the deep south Pacific (again) with 350+hm/h winds and stuff. I was thinking what if a the whole world, or a contenent or even just a large country was completley devasted by a massive natural disaster, say an earthquake or to stay on topic, a bigass cylcone? What if we lost electricity, lost the roads and powerlines and water mains and stuff. How would people survive? How would humanity carry on? I believe countries like New Zealand would be generally okay because we are a nation of people who work the land. The same is true of parts of the USA and Canada and of course other countries. But what of those people who live in a concrete metropolis all their lives? There are people in America who don't even know that apples grow on trees. They just see the finished product on a supermarket shelf. How are those people going to know about bartering for things they need or how to run down an animal and cook it up for dinner. I believe that modern day man has lost the ability to survive un-assisted and has come to rely far too much on 'things'. It would certainly be an interesting time.
