Okay, so Ive been skiing the 187 MSPs I got (which are last year's) and I came to the conclusion, these are the best all mountain ski ive ever ridden, PERIOD, and I live in the east. I took them on some steep black daimonds with those little moguls, and these skis just power through and over everything, they do not get tossed around. I arched huge gs turns on them and didn't wash out at all. I even ducked some ropes and skiied some real heavy crud and while my friends sunk in and fell, i effortlessly skimmed over the top, they're like snowshoes. The fact that they're big and burly means that Im sort of relearning spins because i can't turn as fast, but the skis are extra stable when i land. All in all, highly recommended, if i had to get rid of all my skis but one pair, these are the ones i would keep.
I have a pair of brand new 187 MSPs (from last year) and brand new Look P12 Jibs with wide brakes sitting in my drum room in the garage (mounted and waxed). Still haven't used them... just can't get myself to put away the AR5s for at least one trip. This review kinda made me wanna try them out though... maybe this Tuesday...
it's been the same ski all three years. this year they changed from ptex sidewalls to ABS or UHMWPE or whatever it is. and the graphics of course. other than that it's the same i'm pretty sure
^the sidewalls you mean? i doubt it makes the ski handle any differently. probably more of a durability thing or something.....i have no idea why they switched, maybe you could send them an email or find it on their site? my ptex sidewalls have been fine.
I think they are o.k, but not that great. I just don't like how far forward you are on the "freeride" line. I would probably like them a whole lot better if they were mounted back 1.5inches from "Freeride". they really like to submarine. Other than that, no chatter to speak of, and pretty damn fun in the park.
I have to agree with everyone else and say their awesome. I like the forward mount, even though I ski a lot of pow. I think its funner when your skis submarine. Also, I have got them to chatter. I am almost dissapointed because I can call when they are about to chatter because they are only good up to some point. Other than the chatter, I like the stiffness of the ski for landing bad in the park and such.
no sweat, I'm just not a big fan, every ski isn't for every person, mounted back I may like them in the hill. They are great in the park and I got a good skiing ski so I don't wanna fuck with their mounting right now so I can have a spring park huck ski.
I love them, but i have one gripe with them, and thats that they are weird at carving switch, which i think is related to the narrow tail compared to the rest of the ski. It takes a while to get used to. Riding forward, they are great however, I think the flex is perfect... not as stiff as everyone makes them out to be... it's a good medium-stiff flex, not super stiff like old mad trixx.
^ yeah it takes a little getting used to going switch on the 187s. and they are stiff which prevents butters, but the way they preform in every other aspect makes up for it.
Well, I brought my 187 MSPs up to Mt. High with me today... decided a test run with the Armadas just to make sure I wouldn't be scratching the shit out of the brand new 4frnts. Unfortunately, there were rocks and sticks all over the place... didn't get a chance to try them out. I assure you that on I'll be using them January 3, 4, and 5 up in Mammoth, and I'll be able to get back to everyone on how they ski.
