what does a place up there run for, just a small condo or something? is it easy to find jobs, preferably working in a ski shop?

My buddies lived in Whis last year. They got on at a ski shop called Canski and they made $8.50/hour. Because it was a shop associated with Intrawest they got free passes for the season. They also got into staff housingh which cost them $400/month. With the money they were making they were living pretty well.

if i hadn't been accepted into college, i would've been a ski bum. I'm going to school to get my degree in Communications-video production. My dream would be to work for someone like Poorboyz Productions, or any of the major ski movie guys. My plan after graduation is to move out west, be a ski/video bum, get footage, and just send out my demo-reel. If i don't get hired, oh well i'll be skiing.

If you want to live the ski bum life in whistler, which means hard partying, you better leave with a lot of money, whistler is hella expensive and the jobs just dont pay. Most people in whis have 2-3 jobs and are 8 in a house!

There is definitely a measure of accuracy to what Julian said but it can be done, I spent 4 years in uni wishing I was in Whis and finally bailed on school and moved up here 6 months ago and I've never been happier. It's not like I'm balling (by any stretch of the imagination!) but I'm having the best time of my life. I live with 4 other people in a pretty nice place and pay $500 a month rent. My job is by far the most fun job I've ever had, I work at the longhorn and everyone there is like one big family. Although the town is indeed extraordinarily expensive the more people you meet the more you get hooked up and it ends up working out pretty well. I work and party and ski and that's really all I want to do right now. Somewhere down the road I want to move on to firmer financial ground (most likely at the cost of having to leave Whistler) but for now this is where I want to be. If you have any questions about making it work out here feel free to message me.

Im guessing as long as you plan your shit and are willing to work a lot its all good. Just dont expect to get 1 normal 40 hrs job and be on your own condo and have a blast...for sure you can make it work, but you have to make some sacrifice..that will be well worth it!
