Now that Jackson Hole's tram is closing next year know one's going to ski there unless they like gay cruiser runs. If you cant get to the backcountry, in my opionion it sucks there. what do you think they will do at Jackson Close down or Build a new tram?
Loosing the tram does really blow, but you can still get to every backcountry access gate but one from the regular lifts and that one you can access with about ten minutes of hiking. And jackson doesn't have good inbounds terrein? come on.
powder had an article about this a while back saying that jackson hole has no plans to build anything to the top once they take the tram down. apparently they are having financial issues as well i'm hearing... could be hype.
I'm pretty sure that the tram was getting taken down becuase it's getting old. 40 years, shit, that's a hell of a long time for a gigantic metal box to hang on wires.
I'd be willing to bet that eventually there'll be a new tram. But I don't live out there, so I'm just stabbing in the dark here. I'm trying to figure out if I can get out there to ride that tram before it's gone....... but living in NY makes that kind of tough.
First of all, you definately do not need to go out of bounds for sick skiing in jackson. I don't know what you're talking about. Second, the tram is being taken down after this year, but they are going to have a surface lift like a t-bar or poma to the top until they build a new tram. They have three options for a new way to get to the top. A new tram, a tram from the top of the gondola, or a new gondola from the bottom.
your an idiot...the tram doesnt eliminate the BC. you just have to hike a bit more for the shit.
yes it is an atrocity that they are taking down the lift and not replacing it due to "prime real estate" concerns. but fuck'em. Jackson still kicks ass.
Most of you guys took what you read in the wrong context. They have no plans right now, but do you think they would honestly close the top of a mountain that once was open. Be realistic. The reason for the financial issues is a new lodge and other capital improvements that were planned waaayy before the tram issues came up
Zceeds i suggest you do your HW JHMR is currently looking at 3 differnt replacment options and will make the top of the mtn accesible by next year it may require a hike but you can still get there maybe without the tram it will keep out the gapers like you who don't know whats up
