Vinnie_BYa, Hinsperger. You know him?
rleeRecently I went on a surf trip to Bali, the place is just too easy to photograph I sometimes spent too much time behind the camera and not seeing it with my own eyes! Anyway, I thought I would post some of my favourite surf photos and maybe next time post some lifestyle shots! Really happy with these, sorry if its too much of a dump post and as always, click for better quality...

SklarAre you from Tacoma?
nutz. And you didn't photograph those monkeys there??? Bali is rad haha
1337So damn jealous dude. And damn, this wave looks awesome. Dat bottom turn...
Belzebub@thalorax I love the texture and the colors in the sky, but please for the love of God, straighten it.
steezysteeze^I really like the composition and high contrast but the highlights are a little blown.
PhobiaThose first two shots are god-tier. Well done
steezysteezeI'm pretty stoked on these because they're the first portraits I haven't butchered:
I feel like these portraits are quite standard and bland though. Do you guys have any tips for making portraits with more artistic/creative value?

_JFarrisLighting is so harsh on that dude! What did you use to light him?
Overall it just looks like you shot them without using any type of light besides the ambient light at the time and maybe an on camera flash.
steezysteezeThe first one was in a very dark pub without any artificial lighting. The "harshness" may be coming from a window which would be to the camera right. The reason they look like they were shot without any lighting is because no supplementary lighting was used, is this a bad thing? Is it necessary to use some sort of lighting setup to have more enticing portraits? Surely it's not the only way to give my photos more artistic credibility.

godhatesfigsWondering if I should crop this, either into thirds or to get the bits of the plane out. Thoughts?
Sklarhah, looks like fun.
1) dead center comp, maybe play with the conversion a bit more, too
2) something looks crooked, might just be the angle you were at, its tough to tell
3) best of the set imo, same as 2 though
