Replying to "a disk read error occured"

Allright, so recently my computer has behaved weirdly and I was getting this blue screen during the windows startup that said "a fatal error has occured,...", and this morning even before it starts up windows I get this message: "a disk read error occured press ctrl + alt + del to restart". Restarting is useless,I tried looking around in the bios setup and I did a long hardware check, but still nothing. I did a google search and apparently chances are I gotta reformat my disk and probably won't recover what was on the drive. Can anyone help me please????
