05/06 PE's P-tex top sheet

I just got the new Public enemies. They look fantastic! But the people at the store I went to said the entire ski is P-tex.
The good part is that if pieces chip off...you can simply P-tex it back together.
What does anyone here think about how this affects performance?
I bet they will scratch very easy. How is the flex going to be different? Comments?

Not much, I heard someone say it dampens big hits. I don't think it affects performance to much though.

'Duran Duran bought Armada, Armada bought Microsoft, Microsoft bought MSP and AOL, AOL owns Time4 which owns the MountainSportsMedia which owns SKi, Skiing and RIP Freeze... so Armada now owns McDonalds and Coke.

It's not entirely made of Ptex. I hope you didn't think the core was Ptex. Ptex is the same material on your base so having it on your base and topsheet won't affect the ski at all. It will be easy to repair and probably be more durable overall.

i heard the top sheet comes off in chunks instead of little chips..and the topsheets suck durability wise

topsheet durability matters as much for a ski's performance as the color of paint does for the performance of a car.
it's just completely trivial.

The thing with the ptex topsheet is its real easy to fix it when it does get fucked up, its easier to fix with delam problems, and its much lighter than an abs topsheet.

and if you want you can wax it so snow wont stick to it, because no matter how light your skis are they get heavy when the snow gets caked on them

i have them and they are sick. since the top sheet is all one piece, you don't get all the shitty little chips like the last two years. yes, if you do hit them hard, they will chip, but all skis do.
overall, i think the new top sheet is better than prior years. if you get small chips, you can't even see them as opposed to other years when the layer under the topsheet was red or black and totally noticeable if you had any scuffs.
performance-wise i think the new pe's are great. i never had a chance to ski the 04/05, but i had the 03/04 and like the 05/06 better. it's great all over. definitely fun in the pipe. it can carve like crazy on groomed and still enough float for pow (although there are a million other skis i'd rahter have in the pow)

You could mount them upside down and ride them down the mountain.
With the tip sticking into the ground and everything.

OK...so they don't chip. but I have big nicks and nice BIG pieces of the top sheet peeling off after one day on the mountain. I have doubts that the p-tex on top was a good idea.

ptex is WAY, WAY, stronger than most any other plastic. its super light, and very tough. UHMW (the actual name of that type of plastic) is used in shit like high end cutting boards, DH longboarding slide gloves (drag um across the pavement) and a ton of other shit. this stuff is way stronger than your normal topsheets, and it definatly a way better choice than abs.
