lemme reiterate. ok, our prez is pissing off the entire world but we've got the most money (corrupt, maybe) and the largest military force (even though that doesn't mean anything to nuclear/biological weapons...)

there are good and bads to both countries. I sorta like the US because they are a bit of a security blanket for canada. But i'm definitly stoked to be canadian. The fact that canadian soldiers went to war in afghanistan embarrasingly under equiped and still managed to earn the respect of the well funded americans (one canadian sniper go the world record by taking out a taliban soldier from 2450m away).

i base my opinion of the part of the usa that i lived in, by the fact that i lived thee for 6 years, then came home to australia. and in my opinion the majority of people here are nowhere near as egotistical as those that i met (most of them anyway) in the usa
they all thought thier country was the best, and they hadnt even been anywhere else
it was like that south park episode where cartman and stan and kyl try to convince the rominione quintuplets or whatever to stay in america, 'because it is so much better', the quintuplets told them off for that, and they were right to do so because stan and kyle and cartman had no basis for thier opinions

me either. It's 9/11 here right now, seeing as we're like 22 hours ahead of you guys and it's weird. I watched 'white boys' last night and I got quite a shock at what some parts of America are really like. Places you would never go to at night alone, places you would never go to during the day alone, America is a huge place with a massive amount of people. Sure some of them are going to be assholes, I've experienced that myself with tourists and stuff in my own country, but some of them are the most genuine, down to earth peeps I know, like a lot of you guys on here. There's going to be goods and bads about every single place, person, thing on earth, some are just more obvious than others. And there's no point having a mouth off about who's country is the best coz no-one will ever win that.

Whether we like it or not, the United States has made the world the way it is today, and that can be seen in both positive and negative lights. The U.S. Constitution was and still is the most powerful political document of our time... and maybe Canada, Australia, England, or any other democratic country is 'better' than we are, but the foundations of your government were built from our government. Of course the initial credit goes to John Locke, but that's besides the point.

The negative aspect is war, turmoil, corrupt politicians, massive, dominating corporations, and Presidents who serve only oil boards. Not to mention a national debt that's increasing every day and takes nearly a third of our annual income just to pay the interest on it. And the fact that three percent of the world's population is consuming 40 percent of the world's resources. And pollution. These are all definite problems with the U.S.- but the great thing about it is that we have the kind of political system that can correct these things without having violent revolution or massive gridlock (although that may seem to be the way things are now).

So basically what I'm saying here is- Vote Green!

Bottom line, if the US got nuked out of existence the whole world would perish. It's like those college towns, where the college pretty much makes the town. Actually the national debt isn't a bad thing exactly. Shit... I don't have all my history notes w/ me to make the argument I want. But when Alexander Hamilton was pushing for the future of banking in the American economy he proposed the advantages of having a national debt. Gosh I really wish I could tell you more right now, but all my notes are back home =(

Yea, I'm basically a kid from the burbs... sort of, more like just outside the burbs, but only 15 minutes from the city, and skiing some of the ghetto parts of the 'Nati, really help you know how to deal w/ certain people, and then there are people that you can't really reasonably deal w/, so you skate in big groups or not at all.

grav I want to see why debt is a good thing. I don't follow at all. and alpental I think the world could survive just finr without MacDonald and Microsoft just fine. My skis were made in france. coat in Canada. electronics in asia. And I can live without most of the stuff I now own/use. The economy might suffer, but the world wouldn't end. well....If the US was nuked, then I'm sure the rest of the world would be consumed with war, so... maybe the world would end. but if the US just vanished. life would go on

The econonomy MIGHT suffer? Dude, the economy would fucking crash straight up. Remember Sept. 11th? Eventhough the economy was already in a decline it pretty much hit rock bottom and still is in a shit hole, okay, your turn...that was one small section of a large city...what do you think would happen if the whole country fell into sea? Even if fucking Mexico blew up the whole world's economy would be in utter turmoil. Any country would do the same, but the US is the single most important economic stronghold in the entire world...I'm not trying to brag, I'm just telling you how it is.

Accepted about the parliamentary-presidential systems of government; I was wrong.

And if the US was nuked life would go on, but it would be pretty crazy out there... I think it would end up being like another Dark Age. Which is probably still in the future for us at some point.

I never said life wouldn't be crazy for a while. but life will go on. I'm sure the loss of the US would just make people in Cambodia keel over and die(note the sarcasm). get over yourself. life as we know it may change, but it won't end. Current political powers may fall and others emerge, but that has happened before in history. Look back to the black plague in europe (1373). between 1/3 and 1/2 of the population died. I'm sure things changed, but All life didn't sease to exist.

Dude, don't tell me to get over myself...this is just a political debate, not a personal attack on you or me, you don't need to do that.

Note that the plague occurred hundreds of years ago, back when society was the opposite of what it is now...today we live in a global economy, the complete opposite of back then. It is a completely different situation, and like I said I am not bragging, but just stating the truth...the US is the world leader in most anyone area, it's not my fault, so don't get pissed at me, that's is just how it is...the way we are organized, the resources we have and the fact that we feel like we are better and more important than everyone else and act upon said feelings mindlessly taking over anything we feel. I didn't do any of this, hitory did.

I agree, life would go on just fine without the U.S. I guess what I'm saying is that although most of the time I don't agree with my country's leaders or even most of its people, I think that having a U.S. around is a good thing. Sorry for being arrogant about the Constitution and all... you realize it's drilled into us from birth. Patriotism is a fundamental in American society... which is one reason why I'm going to wear black today.

That is where you are wrong.

Yes, the US economy went to shit.
HOWEVER.
Many many countries felt little, or no impact of 911 on their economies. As an example, New Zealand's economy has been steadily IMPROVING since 911. Our dollar versus the US dollar climbed almost 20% at the beginning of this year.

If america dissapeared tomorrow. I will be gutted cause I just forked out NZ$2000 to fly there in November :)

Nah, but seriously, sure things might be kinda bad for a while. But life will go. See humans have this nice little thing about them. It's called 'adapting to change'. After 10 years the only thing that people will notice about America dissapearing is that there arn't any americans anymore.

Now, what you said about America being the world leader in almost any area is a perfect example of how you think you are the center of everything.
Half the reason is because you people don't care about things that you are not good at. 'Can't beat them, ignore that they exist' seems to be the philosophy.

And on a sidenote, one thing that really erks me about America is that they honestly beleive that Money is the answer to anything and everything that exists in the world. Got a problem? Solve it with money. Is there a problem? Caused by money. Want a problem? Throw some money around.

IT apears as though you perceive the states as the begin all and end all of everything. and you make the black plague in europe sound like it was something that happened in one tiny isolated area. dude, half of the population of a continent died in one year. that is huge. I'm not saying the loss of the states wouldn't impact the whole world, I'm just saying that life would NOT end. And countries in europe traded with africa and asia at the time, That was their world at the time. It affected a lot of people. It was their 'global community'. I just don't see the loss of the US or any other country as cause for the end of the world

I never said it would end the world, it would fuck shit up to a point where the it would be incredibly difficult to reapair completely. Incredilby difficult as in near impossible. The US is the center of the world, like it or not, like I said I didn't make it that way, it just is. It is the foundation of the modern world. Without it, sure life would go on...probably millions would be unaffected, but those millions don't live in the modern world like most of us do, they live in agrarian societys and such, where everything is based on trade within the society and others nearby. Hell, the probably wouldn't even know we all died...just like Russia, there are small pockets of people in mountain villages that still don't know that the Cold War has ended, but that is beside the point. The point is, it would be impossible for the modern world to be unaffected in a major way if the US just went away on vacation. You also must realize that it would be the same with most any other country, the lack of their presence would be felt and its role in the world's economy would be greatly felt.

You asked for it, so here it comes. Hamilton actually proposed that the nation’s debts be funded at par, meaning completely paid. The debt was categorized into types: the national debt, the states’ debt, and the domestic debt. Congress agreed that the debts to foreign countries had to be paid off in order to establish good federal credit
('National Debt'). This in fact helped lead the US to eventually become the leading creditor in the world.

Time for quotes straight from the source. The domestic debt was not fully paid because Hamilton believed that if the government owed its citizens money, the citizens would work hard to make sure that the government was prosperous. This is a quote from Hamilton, 'A national debt, if it is not excessive (our debt may seem excessive even in relation to inflation over the time period of Hamilton, but it hasn't caused hyperinflation, this is key in understanding it's not excessive), will be to us a national blessing.' His debt reduction plan fulfilled his goal to '..restore the faith in the government and public credit, attract foreign capital to the United States, and increase the effective stock of money, thereby stimulating the economy.'

I'd like to challenge the statement that the world would perish if the US was nuked.

The world would perish? No, the world would sure as hell be mess for a while but man would live on. Changes would be made. Parts of Africa, Russia and Asia would be oblivious to the fact that the US was gone. They especially would live on. As for the rest of us in modern, populated areas with easy access to technology would be hugely affected. The world economy would be pretty much destroyed. It would most likely be replaced. Trade would go to hell, it would be fixed or replaced. The world would change to live without America, but you're right in that it would make one hell of a dent in progression and everything else, but the world would not perish.

Yes, we're the leading creditor of the world- that means we owe the most money. Hamilton's ideas of national debt are interesting and workable, but not when the debt applies to foreign nations and industries as well as your own. Like I said before, right now it takes a third of the government's revenue just to pay INTEREST on the debt. If that isn't excessive, I don't know what is.

It's not excessive until hyperinflation occurs. That means the debt is so excessive, the government prints more money to pay it off, and hence devaluing the dollar, it's happened plenty of times in europe throughout from the 16th century on.

think of it this way. what if the the US didnt participate in the world wars? do you really think fascism and communism would have lost? i dont think so. if the US wasnt there they probably would have one and then where would we be. probably inder facism or communistic rule. yes the 9/11 tragedy put the economy of america into bad times and yes it didnt effect some cauntries. but come on now its just foolish to think that if the US was nuked nuthing at all would happen to the worlds economy. the US is mostly like a POPO but what if it wasnt?

That was very long ago and that is when people didt really depend so much on other people to do stuff for them. Like food and whatnot. Im not going to say much more cause i dont want to waste much time in a post that will only turn into america sucks othre countries are better. No matter what we do someone will complain about it so im not even going to pay attention to foreign affairs anymore for a while i dont think

I am tired of reading about you ignorant fucks bashing a country when your probably wearing trends started in america, listening to american music, watching american TV programs, using an american computer, driving an american car or a car manufactured in america (honda, toyota). You owe a lot to the country. Because its trendy to bash America, you're all doing it now. If this were the 1940's, or 50's, most of you would be praising how America was working for the general goal of world peace, or defeating the commie bastards.

I agree about our rights being stripped, and yes, its horrible, but wait a couple years until a liberal president takes office... he/she will appoint more liberals to the supreme court, and many of these new laws that came into place will be challanged by many orginazations. Read the article on Slashdot about how post September 11th legislation has affected you. Thats the stuff I dont agree with.

I've said it before, you can't blame Bush himself for this stuff. He has a panel of advisers he listens to, he has to answer to congress. If he starts a war, for example, he has to justify it before Congress within 60 days or something.

About Nukes... I highly doubt that terrorists could possibly build a nuke big enough to demolish moer than a couple city blocks... which I think takes about 25-40 kilotons...

You need to inject Tritium (an isotope of hydrogen I believe) into the reaction at the split start of it, which boosts the reaction and it puts off MUCH more heat, and much more 'power' of sorts... Tritium isnt easy to manufacture at all, I believe its a by product of an already functioning nuclear program. I also believe that on the black market, its the most expensive substance you can come by.

You could also use lithium hydride, but it wont yeild nearly as much, and you need 100 lbs of it and its extremely toxic and corrosive, so thats out as well.

Therefore, I dont think there is any chance of terrorists nuking the US :-)

And if you actually read my posts you would see that I never said that the US is in Vacuum and that if it gets blown to hell nothing would happen anywhere else.

I still don't see how being in debt helps anything. you are paying for something that you have already paid for. interest on a debt doesn't help stimulate an economy. thats why countries in africa arn't getting any further ahead. they are in debt to the richer countries, such as US, Canada, and other european powers. anytime they make money it goes into paying off this debt we put them in.

They knew alot about us. It wasnt afganistan that attacked us, it was the terrorists, and the Al-Queda was in control of the country at the time. THE STATES IS RETARDED. Afganis say they liked it when the Taliban was head of state because at least there was order. now its just chaos. US did this in Isreal awahile ago when they took out the government ion power and now look at the place its a fuckin 24 hr war zone. If the US got nuked, the rest of the world would be just fine. Sorry to bust your bubble, but almost the entire world hates ther states. China, Asia, India, Middle East, Russia, Africa. That is the Majority of the population of the planet. And by the way, since Sept 11th the Canadian economy has boomed. We would like to thank bush for taking his country on a wild goose chase, because it has been a huge benifit to us. Thanks

I'm sure the middle east crisis rests mostly on the hands of Americans because those pakinstany suicide bombers have no reason for the war going on over there. Kamikaze, most ties I agree with you, however; here I believe you to be wrong. Although it may seem odd with all the war and turmoil Humans create, civilization does not regress, but rather progresses. An Americanless world could not exist without something better having taken its place. Another darkage could be possible, but its chances are very remote. If America were to fall there would be something to take her place. Possibly a unified world taking action against America... but lets not get into science fiction here. As I stated in another post, I believe America will, Like all previous empires, will fall. Don't get me wrong, I am not anti-American. However, a world without America will be sustainable simply because somthng better will have had to take its place.
