FIRST!  BOOYAH! (I'm cheap I know)

Alright I'm starting this new thread to get the scoop on what you cats think we can improve on next year.  Overall I get the feeling that jumps need the biggest improvement, correct? Our expert park groomer, aka Matty Kelly went to cutter's camp at Snow this past April.  He learned alot of techniques and tips so I'm pumped for what he'll make next year.  Hopefully you'll see much improved jumps.  What were we lacking in jumps last season?

Right now Elliot Slope is going to be turned into a small feature park with some tiny jumps and rollers.  There might be some surface level metal for the kiddies but that is under discussion right now.  The idea is to move some of the joey traffic over there so Pipeline can be a bit more advanced starting from the top.  I'm sure there will still be snaking going on but hopefully it won't be as bad.

No park pass....

We're purchasing a couple t-boxes for next season and we are working on a deal right now to bring in a hubba setup so hopefully that will fly.

At the moment we are planning to cut an 8ft half-pipe with the Zaugg on Eastside.  The past few years we've been using the groomer blade to shape all of Eastside and this year we are going to try and turn the shallow bowl that's been there into a full-up 8 footer.  We think the exposure on that trail will allow for both walls to soften so it may be a perfect trail for a pipe.  Time will tell.

We're working on a new park name, any suggestions?

Sparknotes at bottom for lazy people.

Pipe with more sun exposure sounds nice.  8 foot walls sounds decent.  Nice medium size bigger than a mini pipe but smaller than a super pipe.  Sunlight would make it nice.  More of a packed pow/groomed/hardpack mid winter and a soft spring snow surface come march and april.  Perfect.  No more ice taco.  Maybe the placement on the sunbowl would also help light the pipe equally, less riding in and out of the sun and shade.  Just make sure there is enough room and it is nice and vert with nice transitions.

For jumps I'd like to see more medium sized jumps like anything from 10 feet to 30 feet.  This is my skill level as of now.  Also I'd like a good amount of variety.  Tables and step downs for sure, but also throw in some step ups and step overs.  Step ups are great learning tools.  Gets you comfortable taking jumps with greater speed and clearing larger distances.  The upwards distance doesn't have to be huge but enough.  Something gradual would be fine, 20 or 30 feet and maybe 3 foot gain up.  Also the jumps should look clean, squarley cut wedges, even and uniform landings, not too shallow or too steep of landings, nicely painted wedges and landings, good jump geometry (landings should match the wedge and distance of the jump), trajectory should be spot on.

I'd also like to see some nice hips, left and right side.  These are pretty fun features imo.  You can make them as big or as small of a feature as you want and are good for learning how to match transitions.

A nice quarter pipe in the sun would be nice.

For rails, boxes, and jibs, some nice easier boxes and rails would be nice.  Like 6 inches to a foot off the ground would be nice, flat and straight.  Maybe flat box, 1foot diameter tube, double barrel, single barrel, flatbar all in this easier formet.  For jibs, maybe some bonks (tires, trees, vending machines, orange contruction zone barrels, culverts, etc.  Also maybe a mellow wall ride and some culverts to slide.

Basically I'd want all of this at a medium level.  I feel like this is the most neglected aspect of the park.  There are huge jumps (40+ foot) and then there are little 5 foot jumps.  I'd love to see stuff from 10 to 30 feet.

Sparknotes:

Pipe in sunbowl sounds like fun.
More medium jumps and more jump variety.
Nicer jump shaping and geometry/trajectory
Hips and QP a must.
More medium rails, boxes, jibs and also with more variety
Fill the gaps.  Have everything from rollers to 5 foot tables, to 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 foot jumps.

^ as said above perfectly, some medium sized stuff jump wise would be sick to practice stuff on, like a 15, 25, 35 jump line on pipeline would be ill. Sunapee has always lacked stuff in between, and that stuff helps, i was having a fucking blast at camp of champs learning cork 3s and other stuff on like a 25 foot stepdown, tricks that you dont wanna go out and try first hit on a 40 ft stepdown.

Also where the 2nd jump on jetstream was really try building up a landing so its much longer, the first and last hit had nice landings, I know it would be hard to get a good sized landing there but maybe a step up or more of a table would be better there.

And speaking of step-ups, maybe at the bottom of pipeline a sick step-up jump before the rainbow

rail wise, it would be awesome to see a new DFD, or at least more than 1 down rail.... down rails are fun people like them.

Cannon rail... it was awesome but kinda a waste, didnt see much traffic at all it would have been sick to put it on the up-ward part of a jump deck so its a sick uprail, with an awesome landing.

more than 1 flat rail would have been nice, or a like a longer on like 20 feet

boxes.... again a kink would be sweet but a nice down box would be just as good

tree jib sounded like a good idea but didnt turn out so well.... better idea half way up the trail like where the c box was 2 years ago early season where it opens up between the 2 trails make it like a small QP to a log stall or one of those corrugated tubes even

bring the tire back if you can too...

As for pipe on eastside that would be sweet, i skiied alot of pipe when i was in whistler and enjoyed it maybe b/c it wasnt ice but hey theres always march that i can ski it

other than that just dont be afriad to make some creative features and change it up once in a while, i mean in march we were having more fun hitting the mail box that we just put in ourselves b/c it was just somthing differnt, 1 new feature can make a big differnce the same setup all season gets pretty boring

To sum it up
Some medium sized stuff
longer steep landings esp on the 2nd hit in jump line
flow
down rails/boxes
creativity/ change it up

ok, as a skier who skis in the frount part of his boot, i loved the halfpipe just not how it was maintained. so if you wanna put a superpipe at the bottem of any trail and promis to keep it in shape im down.

jump wise i thought last season was awesome, the big air was killer and that three jump line was ill as well so im really for the bigger jump line on jet stream.

medium size jump line would be sick preseason but i dont see a 15 25 30 being awesome all year. so like once january rolls around if the biggest jump is a 30 i might be a little sad and i might move to waterville

BUT if you do build a small jump line preseason put like a 45 step up where the rainbow box was this season because i knnow there was an ill one there one season that was extremly fun and alot of kid thru down on it.

i think whereever you put that log jib or however well you set it up im still gonna steal shovels from the park hut and try to knock it down because i thought that was really funny... to me anyways.

i kinda like sobe freeride zone, but if sobe isnt our sponcer any more we should get hood milk. think about it, we could call the park The Hood and on top of that get all the free hoodsy cups in the world. i know you remember hoodsy cups

I think it would be great to have a medium jump line in addition to the large jump line.  Maybe 15-20-25-30-35 for the medium and then 45-50-60-70 for the large jump line.

I see you guys found my thread finally, good.  Jump lines are the biggest thing that should be changing this year.  We plan on having split lips on all of the jumps to give you an option and we'll start with probably a 5 or 10 footer and go up to 35 feet in increments of 5' on Pipeline.  Jetstream will have 30'+ all the way down with split lips.  Our park groomer did the Mt Snow cutters camp so the angles should be better.  We also are going to make the trannies longer and steeper.

Chances are that the QP will be on Eastside... we may have one in the main park but with the pipe on Eastside and the pipe cutter needing to be close by we might not be able to have a QP in both areas.  BUT, the pipe will be soft all day because of the way it faces so we hopefully won't have an ice taco so we have to take the bad with the good.

New rails this year are a couple 10' - 20' flat t-rails, a new c-box t-rail, and we'll have a new flat box that is probably 25' long, and meant to close the gap between the small Allan box and the long 32' flat box.  I don't know what happened with the tire last year but it should be out this season.  Also the log will be put up in a different way that everyone will like and actually be able to use.

Elliot is going to be more of a boarder cross at the beginning of the season.  Mostly rollers, spines, small jumps, hips and that sort of stuff.  We may add some small metal up top later on. It's mainly to get the little groms out of the intermediate park to reduce the snaking that I saw happen all the time last year.

What else.... We're thinking of creating a "Build-to-Ride" program where if we need to rebuild the park due to an ice storm or to give the park an overhaul, we would look for volunteers to come help us for the day and in exchange that person would get a lift ticket to use, or give to a buddy, or sell for a couple of 30s...  That's not a definate but something we are considering to help reduce downtime and keep the park in prime condition.  Also, the park has been named to the "603".  That may chage slightly when a main sponsor comes on board but Freeride Zone is no more.

That's all I can think of at the moment.... -Ross

nice that all sounds awesome im in favor of the pipe on eastside and its not a big deal if theres no QP in the park
and this whole "build to ride" i mean tons of people helped out a lot last year so a nice lift ticket... that you can scalp to pay for a nice 30 would be sweet,  but not totally necessary b/c we all helped out b/c we like riding features in good shape....  or b/c we totally just wanted to see the tree jib fall...
This sounds like it should be another sick season... just blow tons and tons of snow so we can have huge landings... and a thick base

if you do put the tree jib up make sure its not totally in the ground or deep in the wall of the quarter, itd be way easier to push over

What up!

So we had a delivery of rails the other day from PlanetTools.  We have 3 new flat t-rails 20footers, and a sweet mellow c-rail.  You can actually see the c-rail on the photo of the day.  We also are getting another box, probably 20ft or so and maybe 20" high....

The tree jib will be on its side and raised about 1 foot off the ground.

For opening day we'll have a rail or two setup.  Not sure where yet but we'll have em.

Yoo nothin but good news !

Gettin stoked for this season. New jibs and sounds like you guys really have your shit together.

Last years jump line was a huge step in the right direction !

The only thing I would like to see focused on is flow. Alot of the time you had to choose between jibs or hittin the first booter. It'd be dope to see the jibs and jump line worked together a little better. It'd be elated to see a few jibs leading into a beautiful 25 - 35 - 45 -55 jump line

Speaking of flow any chance of gettin a rail line this year ? Usually theres a cluster of jibs on lower pipe or theres 3 to 4 jibs across near the top. Could be fun to see a jib line that weaves along the edge and goes all the way down.

East half pipe sounds like a solid idea.

Any chance of settin up the wall differently this year ?? its a kickass feature we never truly take advantage of. Where its narrow and steep, the lip is usually subpar and the wall often goes overlooked. It'd be nice to see the lips extend a full groomer on each side and maybe go like halfway up the wall

Kinda somethin like this
