Alright so Im beginning to realize that I need to actually start looking into colleges this summer, and of course one of my main concerns is access to skiing. UVM would be my top pick for this, but better programs at other places and UVM's financial problems have got me worried about my future skiing.
So... I was looking into USP in Phili and I was wondering if any NS'ers from the area could fill me in on the skiing scene (if any). I'm from central NY so I'm used to shitty skiing in the immediate area, but Ill miss being close to Vermont and such.
Thanks for any help!

I live in Philly, grew up in Albany NY area. I know what you're concerned about, but I will say the PA ski scene is great. Between Big Boulder and Blue Mountain, both about an hour and a half from Philly, skiing has been awesome. Conditions are not amazing but the scene is serious and comparable to any other states. Kids here kill it on skis. Boulder opens like mid to early Nov and closes end of April and I actually get more days in PA then I ever did in NY.

You're looking at a bunch of 600-1000ft vertical mountains at about 1-2hrs away. I'd say PA's park scene is better than most places that have comparable sized mountains. Boulder is tiny, but its all (quality) park and they have a longer season than a good amount of VT resorts.

on the odd chance that we get a decent amount of snow in philly, the handrail possibilities are completely endless.

I live in Philly, my girlfriend went to USP, they have a great alumni network in the Pharmacy industry. If you aren't doing Pharmacy I would look at Drexel, Temple, Villanova. USP is expensive and most people out of the Philly area (with the exception of Pharmacy people) haven't heard of it.
As for skiing, I went to University of Utah and moved back to Philly after college so I'm a bit jaded on the ski scene. But like stated above the Boulder park scene is very impressive for the poconos. Depending on where you live in Philly it will take you an hour and a half to get there, but thats not bad considering it can take you hour to get across the city sometimes.
"If I ask anybody who learned to ski after the age of five, they can remember their first day of skiing -- what the weather was like, who they went with, what they had for lunch. I believe that's because that first day on skis was the first day of total freedom in their life."
