Subject: Moving to NYC and need somwhere to ride
Im moving to NYC and need somewhere to ride this winter i dont really know any mountains in the area all i have heard of is Hunter and Windham can anyone tell me anything about them or anything about other mountains close enough to ride this season
I live, ski, and work at Hunter mtn. its got a decent combo of trails, but not a very big park, but its been getting better the past several season with them getting a stair set and a nike 6.0 car box.

if you are looking to ski in the catskills. the best "park" you'll get is at hunter. if you are looking to ski woods and get away from a mountain that can get 6000 people a day then go to plattekill

I moved from the Catskills to Long Island a couple years ago, before moving yet again. I went to the Snohaus to check out the new gear. I was dumb enough to ask the dude workin where the closest mountain was. Belleayre. I fuckin grew up at the bottom of it. Hit the thruway real late or real early and the drive is smooth sailin. 17N thru jersey help bypass a lot of traffic when it gets stuffy. My fastest time was about 2 -21/2 hrs.

mtn creek is definitely your best bet. hunter's park is just terrible
and i dont even think belleayre has a park anymore. windham ive never been to but ive seen videos from there and it actually seems ok. but still, creek's a little
over an hour away from the city and its got an all park mtn. even though it gets ridiculously crowded there its worth it. i actually carpool with a friend of mine from the city like once or twice a week so you might be able to join us

big boulder has a legit park and isnt too far from nyc
Plattekill for woods and powder (on a good day definitally go there). For park maybe just day trip to Mt. Snow. If you want something closer than vermont and want a real park cause platty has possibly the worst park in New York and me and some other people end up setting most of it up every year then i guess Hunter. Have fun.

If you're looking for park, definitely mountaincreek in vernon nj. It has 2 peaks of park and I buy a season pass every year despite the crowds and lack of decent snow. It has everything I want though, snow, good jumps and some decent rails. That's probably your best bet dude.
Mountain Creek and Big Boulder are both really pretty good (i've only been to creek)
but if you're in the mood for some extremely legit park skiing, make the drive to Mt. Snow
Stratton and okemos parks are pretty good too

how long is the drive to mt snow isnt it like 4 hrs
Creeks mountain is a joke. If you want to do anything else besides park, it sucks. Just go somewhere upstate and ride a mountain with 2-3x the vert, and a decent park.
i'm in hoboken and i've done the day trip to vt, it's pretty brutal.
Hunter will get boring real quick. Their park isn't very good, especially the jumps (at least the few times i went last year). Their rails can be okay but there isn't much variety and there is no true 'line.' Just a mish-mosh of features.
Windham is pretty bad, although they had a giant air bag last year at the end of one of their jumps.
Camelback has an okay park. The trails are beginner-intermediate and very, very short.
Big Boulder puts together a very nice park with a solid jump line and fun rails. Tails are short and easy.
Blue Mt. can be good from what I read, although I haven't been there in about 6 years.
VT is your best bet. Pipe dreams (google it) a snowboard shop in NYC runs day trips to okemo, stratton and Mt snow nearly every weekend in the winter. I believe it's 80 bucks for a ride and a lift ticket. My buddy did it a bunch last year and loved it. The bus leaves around 4am.

on multiple occasions i have made it from east village to big boulder in the poconos in an hour and fifteen minutes. sometimes with traffic it can take an hour and forty five, but it's worth it. if you like to ride park boulder is unbeatable!

The only thing I don't agree with is... snow? There is no such thing as snow in jerz. But yeah the park is sick, if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, all the downhill shit is mad icy and filled with gapers and the obnoxious race team
