So fun man, i would say there pretty legit. I have skied the trees of every run, so there all pretty much possible but at times may be sketchy if there isnt enough snow, or its to steep and snow doesnt catch.  I dont no who else would agree with me, but i have skied ALL of HV and i would say the terrain there is pretty good and has good variety.

They have a few bike trails off to the right of Northwind that are real whack but fun, its called crazy trail. The woods to the right of Yodler are prime, probably my Favorite.

Most of the better Glade are not considered glades by the mountain, so you will most likely be putting yourself at risk of ski patrol, Dont worry about that tho till it happens then try to get away. i wear a dark suit just to blend in with the trees, because they will pull your pass.

Since HV isnt that elevated theres quite a few trees in the woods at times, alot of sapplings, and broken trees in the way but there really fun to hop and play around on.

Hes right when they get the snow (like earlier in the season this year) there good. The only problem it they get tracked down super fast so get there early. If I get there late and its all tracked down I usually hit up the trees left of champange (never any ski patrol there) or the trees in between moonshadow and fidlers if there is enough snow.  And I dont know how dedicated you are but early this season before the resort was open they got like 3 feet of fresh and I hiked it.

Does any one know of any off resort areas that has good terrain you can hike when we get good lake effect. I always thought it would be nasty to like ski the bear caves in alegany bc they have cliffs and stuff but I don't know if it would be worth it.

hmm you guys seem to no a little about the area outside of e-ville. sweet.

Rock city i believe is in great valley and i have been interested to see if they have any cool natural jibs there too, def worth doing a voyage in the summer to check it out.

There's an old ski resort that closed down many years ago (not sure why) and the terrain there i have heard from my friend, its got some vertical. The resort is in Alleghany and is called Ski Wing. My friend Corey's Dad used to ski there when he was a young gun into skiing and he had known the man who has ownership of the land. I have always thought about hitting it up, and trying to get some footage of it.

oh man, i remember hiking up that years back in the summer with my family and thinking how much fun it would be to ski down. there is also zoar valley, which if certain spots filled in with good snow, would make for amazing east coast backcountry. The only problem with zoar is that it would be a long hike in, if i remember correctly, the bear cave path was right off the road? Little Rock City sounds like an awesome idea, and bluemont, which is on 78 right out side of springville i believe has, has a few jump possibilities.

when i go back to wny these are the places im going to ski

Hiked there two seasons ago. I know HVskier skinned and tele'd there this past season as well.

Bluemont lack cliffs, but also has good snowfall, and solid vert and some steep stuff too. Some awesome areas for booters as well with very steep landings. Right in prime lake effect territory. The day we skied it, the snow was older and crusty, so not prime pow pow.

God, after living in VT this past year I have realized how much WNY completely LACKS tree skiing, and tree skiing is the BEST on pow days. Some nice, steep trees need to happen in WNY.

Maybe your talking about Mt.Blue Ian.

That place is sick. havent been there but heard much about it.

There are not many steeps in WNY. The steepest trees i skied were the ones to the left of the wall, intense and sketchy but pretty technical.

I've heard of them for lift serviced mountain biking. Know nothing about their skiing though. How's the snowfall there?

The shame with WNY is how much snowfall is wasted with their refusal to allow interesting terrain like tight tree runs that are open and selectively thinned and maintained on "steeper" runs.

Best place to be when there is a dump. They make mad bucks on mtn biking, a lot of my friends race there or whatever. They are in the process of buying Swain as well
All our shit is just chillin' on tha hill right now, i'm not to happy.

It's like right across tha border from the Corning area. Like 45 mins from there.

unless you are staying in the park the whole day KB sucks my left nut.  You gotta skate uphill everywhere to get anywhere in that shithole.  HV is way nicer.  Like everyone said better trails, lifts.  Bars are better at KB, but i dont drink when I ski...just fly high.  I know people who work at both and they say KBs park is better...all in one place, nice layout, nice jumps but HV is definitley getting better.  Hopefully this year though they build the park right away instead of having gay little jumps for the first 1/4 of the season.  Seasons too short in WNY to not have a park the whole time (could be not enough snow to build jumps though, who knows).

kb's bar and bar food are way better and less expensive than HV, plus its easy to get by at KB if you are young. Eville does have the nice street but unless you have a house close by its a long drive back

Dang just saw this thread. Anyway, I'll throw in my three cents. I went to UB way back when, (04 grad), did Shuss for a year before I started working at the valley for my uncle. It's a decent deal: get to go to a few places for a relatively cheap price.

As for the valley, it's getting better. I'm a lil bias since I grew up in Ellicottville and have been going there since I could walk. But, all in all, it's a work in progress. The park manager is going into a cat full time now instead of just here and there and letting the regular cat drivers (who, I believe all hate the idea of grooming/building a park) do it. As long as Perks is building and TPM* is brining events/sponsors in, the Valley will keep growing. I haven't been back in two years, but am still close with my crew who are running the show there.

As for the vibe at the valley, yeah, it's a tight-knit group that can seem a bit out there. But, it's a fun group to be a part of.

Any other HV questions, feel free to ask.
