^ out of curiosity who are you?

First hit on the left was fun all year long. Every time i was there jump got slayed. I'll agree second hit landing was way to flat but third was decent, lip was ok, speed into it was perfect and the landing was long enough.

They're shootin for a joey park on elliot. Just small fun stuff to get kids who don't belong out of the park. Should be good for traffic in the park if they get the go ahead. Last I heard crew was talking to management and it sounded like its gonna be ok'd?

aw, i was hoping for a more medium park- bigger jumps than the smaller one, but not 40-50 footers. say, 20-30 ish. your right tho, should help decrease traffic. maybe there'll be some fun mini jibs

I'm matt, have skied sunapee since about 7th grade, sophomore in college now, but I wasn't around sunapee's park much ever.  Last season 07-08 was my first season with twins, but it got cut short due to a shoulder reconstruction surgery, this season was my first season dedicated to park.  Probably spend at a minimum 50%  of my time in the park and at most 90 or 95%.

I go to SU, so I ski at a resort called Toggenburg, best park around, well maybe tied with Labrador haven't skied there yet, Togg is 10 bucks 9 am to 10 pm with college ID.

I guess I have just really gotten to like Toggenburgs parks.  They have 2 a small one which is fun to warm up in easy rails and boxes and a 10-15-20 foot jump line, and a medium, large, and xl one, which has a nice jump line 10-15-20-30-35 and a 40/55 double to end it.  it also has some really fun jibs, rails and boxes and also some hips which are soo much fun.

When I went home to ski sunapee, I was a little dissapointed in the park, I mean it looks sick if you are at a advanced/expert level in park riding, but kind of sucks for me, I'm at a beginner and intermediate level of park riding.  On the small side the jumps are wicked sketch, its basically a wedge right on the edge of a natural knol, so it kind of sucks, and then the left side are way to big for me, both the distances and the size of the wedges.

I'd really like to see a better park for beginner to intermediate skiers and a bit more variety.  Maybe some step ups and step overs, to make learning a bit easier, so you can fly into the jump with a good amount of speed and not have to worry too much.  Also some better step downs and tables, and good landings and not just wedges right on knols.  Also maybe some fun hips left and right side, cause hips are as big as you make them.

Other than that I think sunapee has the rails and boxes well covered, sometimes they are set up more for boarders or have huge boarder ruts, but seems like they have a good variety, flat, kinked, a frame, rainbow, s, c, dfd, fdf, ufu, fuf, down, up, etc.  And jib features are better and better, looks like they have a tire and tree jib, maybe we could get a barrel bonk and come culvert jibs.

Anyway here is what I'm talking about, this is how my park was mid season

http://www.newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/436896/

this would also be nice both large sizes and medium and small sizes

yes!! exactly, sunapee has the goods for advanced and expert, but not so much for intermediate and the beginner stuff is a bit sketchy.

i think sunapee needs to work on two things mostly from my expierience this year.

so some posative stuff first.

-i really liked the divided thier park so that there were 0 to no beginners on the expert side +1

-thier rail variety was great. the s-rail, dfd, but that down rail was a lil sketch. then you move onto the canon rail or slat rail or box. rails are good +1

bad stuff

- thier jumps have always been sketchy. the first jump this year was great. good kick and good landing, but hard to get speed for. (i will talk about flow later)

- the second and third jump (that huge step down) those were weird. the second jump had a terrible landing a different kick to it everytime i was at the park. thats every weekend. and when i didnt have school. the last and huge step down just seemed to large for sunapee. i just didnt seem to fit into the park at all, but it had a nice landing which is a plus.

as for flow like i mentioned before

- i think the 2nd and 3rd jump should be moved up the hill so that you could place another rail (rainbow) below it. the rainbow is on the complete wrong side of the park, has anyone ever seen a gaper hit a rainbow?

another idea for the jumps ---i thought it was weird how you need a lot of speed for the first jump, but then had to really hit the brakes for the second jump, but then the second to 3rd jump was great. it almost felt like there could have been another jump inbetween the first and second. idk, just felt that way sometimes.

still dealing with flow, it was hard this year to find a line that you could hit all the features in. i would have liked to hit the long flat box/rail, but then that means that i wiould have to skip the first jump. so all i am saying that that the park would really step up to the next level if there was a distinct line that a skier/boarder could take.

thats my 2 cents on the sunapee park subject. i hope its not too confusing.

I believe the goal is elliot will be joey park, then med and large in main under the lift. I know they had mentioned improving the med features before. Its tough when you need to cater to so many day travelers from mass and locals who want normal size hits. Often the med features get left out in the compromise.

^ that is good.  I'd love to see an assortment of jumps from about 10 feet to about 30 or 35 feet, step downs, step overs, step ups, tables and also some quarter pipes, maybe a return of the half pipe, but not unless it can be in good shape, after that maybe just have the rails set up better and maintained better ( ie set up so skier can easily ride them, and not all rutted out on lip and landing)  After that I think we'd have a legit park small side, medium side, large/XL side.  Its too bad we don't have more terrain for parks, but there aren't too many wide open and not too steep trails to spare.  I like a park that is roomy and not to squeezed in by the woods, and not too steep, the main park at okemo is on a redic steep trail.

youre complaining about a jump being too big?  come on now, you gota appreciate stuff like that.

that jump was sweet, we were there for a shoot a couple weeks ago and i had verrrrryyyy low expectations.  park staff was great though, super helpful, and other than a too short/flat landing, the jump was a lot of fun, definitely a big surprise.

im not complaining on the we call a "large jump" when i said large i was specifically talking about the take off and how it was 15 feet up and just seemed really uneccisary. i feel like there could have been a better use of snow, thats all i guess im saying.

as for the general attitude and feel in the park, its awesome. park crew is sick. BBQ's at the bottom are sick. take a run and eat a burger. how much better can it get?

What was the distance on  that jump, seemed huge, 15 foot wedge is massive, it was vertical too right?  Like you couldn't roll over it if you decided it something wasn't right.  That  would suck if you came up short.

It looked bigger than it was. I'd guess 55 maybe 60. Yeah the lip was tall but the deck wasn't that long for the size of the lip. Being a step down it gave it some float at least. You'd feel like you were huckin anything over 7 if it was a step up.

As for the flow I agree. They definitely made some improvements forsure but the flow from rails to jumps was off. The first jump, even though it was the best in the park, just didnt fit

The way they did it at togg, and I'm not saying this is the best solution, but it worked ok, was to have everything in tiers.  The whole park was done in tiers, for example the first tier of the jump line had a jump, a 10 foot step down and also a picnic table jib to the right and almost like a spine that is perpendicular to the hill to the left, so you could get creative with hand drags and such, next tier was a 15 foot step down and it had a up rail to the right and a down rail to the left, and this went on and on.  Jumps getting bigger in size until the final 40/60 step down and each jump had some kind of rail, box, or jib to the side, so it flowed pretty nicely.  You could hit a jump, then a rail, then another jump, etc any line you wanted.

their jump line was interesting this year. like said above they need more flow. the first jump was prime and was slayed but the second jump was just awful. and the third was nice but i personally dont like step downs that big. but it was nice none the less

pats peak represent! represent what, our shitty park? I love the complaints about flat landings at sunapee.  I'm positive they don't hold a candle to pat's steep lips and flat-as-fuck landings.  I almost wonder whether all those impacts contributed to MY SEASON BEING OVER due to a knee injury.  Sorry for the rant, but I'm frustrated.  On a better note, I'm going to try again for the sunapee freestyle team next year, and it should be even more fun if they up the parks

A lot of northeastern parks seem to be eliminating the advanced aspect of their parks. I havent heard of or seen a park with big jumps other than mount snow. Its gotten pathetic really. Itd be pretty awsome to see Sunapee put up some sick features.

Yes, I can confirm that Elliot will be a park next year, however it will be small features, probably the current A frame and Trap boxes and some of the other rails plus smaller jumps.
Thus making pipeline, the current small side a medium sized park, and jet stream will most likely get a little bigger, John the guy in charge of the park said the jumps will be better next year... some how differnt, more variety i guess
Also, Sobe will no longer be the sponsor of the park, Amp'd is going to be the new sponsor and will be giving Sunapee a very nice amount of money (i dont know how much exactly) that to the best of my knowledge is going towards rails and boxes.
There was also some talk about a natural park between Elliot and the Pipeline, how serious this might be idk and i doubt this will happen this year, but again rumors about once elliot is a park.
Also, while helping dig rails in for the jam, there is a new (old) park crew guy coming back, who has alot of ambition.
Over the past year sunapee has deffinatley up'd their commitment towards they park and its starting to blow up, there were over 60 people at the rail jam last weekend

and about park passes, john the park crew guy was talking about them but, because sunapee is owned by okemo and crested butte, all three mountains would have to have park passes, thats the reason for the joey park on elliot, it should work like the hotdog hill at okemo as that seems to keep alot of the joes out of the park

shit i was up at sunapee almost every weekend this season bc i had the season pass and it was a lot of fun. now for next year i was totally going to get the mt. snow season pass but knowing more $$ and effort are going into sunapee's park i may stick with the sunapee/stratton/okemo pass. this is a tough one. any thoughts? sunapee is closer to me than mt. snow too hmmm

depends how good you are. i would say mount snow tops it for expert, inferno is beastly, but sunapee is better for good intermediates.

I have never been to sunapee, and MS is my home mountain, so I'm a bit biased.  But Nitro into lower titanium or lower nitro gives you over a mile of non stop intermediate terrain.  Maybe 7 or 8 jumps 15-30 ft. and a ridiculous amount of boxes and rails.  Then there's mineshaft which is short, but also intermediate.  And parts of the large park (gulch) are definately intermediate.  Not too mention the 2 natural parks, which if you have the balls to slide wood on skis, is not that technical.  So maybe Sunapee has that, but frankly, I doubt it.

^sick. yeah i didn't get a chance to go up to MS this year so I have no idea what it's like. Price and the fact that the sunapee pass includes stratton and okemo also play into it bc I rly like stratton. Unless they really jack up the price of the MS/attitash college pass this year I'm going with mount snow though.

I scored my pass (young adult with only a few blackout dates) for only $500.  And I got to ski free for a week this spring.  The rates didn't go up since last year, but buy before June 1 to get the best deal.  Could save you $250+ compared to in nov./dec.  See you there next year, probably ridiculously eraly like end of october.

as for the returning park crew   i think its brian caravan   which would be dope.  the park crew needs to understand how to maintain their features    and not take a shovel ANYWHERE NEAR the lip of the jumps   thats the cats job. as for matty (the cat operator) he's going to whatever its called park jump building school  so hopefully he'll learn alot and bring that new knowledge to a sick park next year.  i also have heard about a hubba set in the works...amp'd is giving us a ton of money  so new shit will be up      i have loved sunapee ever since i started there   we as riders make sure there is a friendly atmosphere and its always upbeat    sunapee is forsure improving year by year and has only been getting better     stay tuned homies   i think we'll be witnessing a turning point in our park finally   (i hope)

im sure every mountain has their ups and downs (some more than others). Not to mention we all know sunapee's issues with maintaining their shit as well as the quality of how they set shit up.

It may be the fact that ive been skiing at sunapee ever since i learned how to ski (4 years ago, i know not that long), but sunapee is like home to me. There hasnt been anyplace anywhere that i have been able to meet as many genuine people that i have while skiing there. *shout-outs to all the sunapee homies...you know who you are* we all make the best of what we have there and throw down (mind the claim) on whatever they put up for us. we can only hope they step up their shit and make it an all around better park, but year after year despite the bunk jumps and the sketchy rails i have yet to lose faith in sunapee. driving up that access road, parking in the second lot, suting up in the lodge (RIP former locker room), and getting on that triple are all memories i will have forever. the vibe at sunapee is like that of nowhere else, where anyone can come and ski and expect to meet some good heads and ski with a genuine crew. im not really sure what point im making in this, more or less reminiscing on the past season wishing and waiting for the next season to come soon.

i just want to give sunapee some credit for the work they have done and the work they will continue to do. they are always willing to take some ideas/friendly criticism and do what they can to accommodate it.

SO LETS SHOW SUNAPEE SOME LOVE and look forward to a great 09/10 season!!!!!!!!!

^ word em up!

A significant amount of kids are movin on to college, life, and bigger and better things. But the sunapee vibe is what makes it home. Hell i've shredded most mountains in new england and its tough to find friendly fokes

But where am i going with this? The jumps are far from perfect, the jibs are certainly improving, and the young park staff is strating to learn the ropes. If your lookin for better jumps stay on 93 north forsure and just hit up loon. If your looking to just ski and make new friends. Hit up sunapee and say what up

perfectly put bob and rob
I've met so many friends over the past 2 years because of Sunapee and the vibe every one brings to it is absolutely awesome. Down here where i am there is really no skiing scene aside from one other kid in my school. We can all complain about Sunapee's down sides but what truely makes it great is the atmosphere, BBQ's in the spring, snowball fights, pow skiing under the duckling, a park crew who is more than willing to ride with you and also one which listens to your input on the park, i mean we complained about the pipe and well it was gone this year.
Even going on to college next year i still plan on buying a sunapee pass as well, even though ill be and hour or so north i still plan on going back often, it truely is an second home to me.
