wellllllll to begin
boat, paddle,PFD(lifejacket made for whitewater kayaking),skirt, HELMET, floatbags so your boat doesnt sink.... then a good pair of river booties, a top to stay warm.... and always bring your throwrope.

Legends never die.
I Whitewater tube hahaa....... i work at Town Tinker Tube Rental in Phoenicia ny. We run the Esopus river, and on water release dates, shit gets prety wild. According to americanwitewater.org its class 3-4. Im so used to the river, when i tube i ride on my stomach and am able to ride the rapids kinda like those small playboat ride rapids. Every year they have white water races, and i love watching them, eventually i wanna buy a nice kayak but they are so expensive

I love to but I'm a noob. I'm really only comfortable up to class 3. I've got a liquidlogic POP playboat and a 11.5 old town for camping and fishing. I do the lehigh up here in the poconos on dam release weekends mostly. I might be down for some playspot action but you guys seem pretty far away. Where at on the potomac are you guys going. Far from Filthadelphia??

Rapid and Paddler are good.
Paddler: Cheaper, a lot more to read, but includes all kayaking such as rec. and touring, but still a good read
Rapid: Excellent photography, all WW kayaking, a little short, pricey.
Or get both! lol
